I have heard it before and am in love with it. It's also the only name that DH has liked so far. But I hate made up names, and I'm worried it sounds a little made up.
I grew up with a name that no one could pronounce and I hated it. Love my name (Elyse)...hated being called Elsie. Luckily, it's becoming more and more mainstream. I just don't want my kids to go through that. So the fact that you all are questioning the pronunciation makes me ready to take it off the table!!
I don't think it sounds too made up. A lady in my office just named her baby Elea, pronounced the same as yours, and I think it looks good with different spellings.
There was a contestant on Top Chef named Elia a few seasons ago, so that's automatically what I think of. I actually think it's pretty, although her's was pronounced almost...faster? Like El-ya.
I like it. I honestly don't get why people don't like "made up names". Every name was "made up" at some point.
I agree (mostly). Taryn was made up to combine Tara and Erin and it's a perfectly accepted name now. All names started somewhere. I find awkward spellings more offensive than a made up name that sounds and looks pretty.
Re: Clicky poll - Sound made up?
is it EL-lee-uh, or el-LEE-uh?
