Ok, I feel REALLY dumb asking this but....How does an e/p happen with IVF? Once the embies are transferred, do they "float" up into the tube and that's where they implant??
Hiding now.....

I believe that is exactly right. They are still freely moving for a couple of days, so they are able to make their way out of the ute. **I assume** haha
also - speaking of implanting somewhere else in the abdomen - that happens sometimes too - not necessarily with IVF - but if an egg is released it can get fertilized and float out into the abdomen instead of down the tubes (because ovaries and tubes aren't really connected).
then the embryo can attach to an organ and get a placenta/blood supply going from that. CRAZY but true (although very rare)
Yep, your chances of an e/p actually increase from 1% to 2% if you have NO tubes in IVF. Weird, huh? They say the scar tissue from your removal can act as a magnet for your embies.
Your IVF embies can actually implant somewhere else as well - they just float to the wrong place. I didn't know any of this stuff until we had our c/p!

An e/p means it's not implanted where it should, not necessarily just in the tubes. An e/p can have implanted in the abdomen, cervix, ovaries, any tissue other than the uterus.
I'm a little late on this, but while I did not do IVF, I had an ectopic abdominal pregnancy that implanted on my bladder. It's extremely rare (about 1 in 10,000 pregnancies). My ob has been practicing for 35 years and had never seen one before me.
And with as much research as I have done and as many times as I have asked my ob, no one knows how or why in the hell it happens. Sh!tty luck is the only answer I can get.
