How can I get my stovetop looking new again?

Seriously, I suck at cleaning.  I cannot get my stovetop clean.  We have a gas stove.  Any suggestions?  I'm thinking about getting a handheld steam cleaner and trying that.

    Is it caked on food? Try putting a strong cleaner like 409 on it, scrub all you can off, then spray a heavy coat of it on and let it sit for a while (20 minutes or so). Then scrub. Repeat as necessary. GL!!

    I spray with surface cleaner, let it sit for a minute, then use the Magic Eraser.

    I haven't tried the magic eraser, guess I'll try that.  I've even used the oven cleaner on it.  There is always something that I can not get off of it.

    I usually clean my stovetop after every meal I cook so the food isnt too cooked on.  I use regular hot water and dishwashing soap on a sponge and for food that is a little more stubborn I use Ajax and a sponge.
