So the registries are pretty much done but there is one section that continues to be difficult ... bottles. I don't know why it's causing so much trouble ... but it is.
We've been told not to pick "the" bottles and stock up on any certain variety because all babies are different and might take to one type/brand but not to another. Most of our friends have recommended registering for a few types and seeing what works best. Problem is ... how much do you register for? There are so many different types of bottles and nipples and brands and it's all just so overwhelming. We also don't want to register for too many types and then look like we are indecisive or greedy.
What are your thoughts? Register for like 1or 2 bottles each from 2 or 3 brands, get 1 or 2 nipple types for each, what sizes are best to start with ... 4oz, 8 or 9oz?
Are there any brands to complely avoid because they are horrible?
Re: Registering for bottles
we started out with Avent bottles and I hated them. they leaked a ton. we then switched to Playtex drop ins and those were awesome . it doesn't take as long for them to heat up b/c it's a think plastic lining so that was a bonus also.
are you planning on breastfeeding at all or just bottle feeding? if you do any breastfeeding then you are supposed to stay on the slowest flow' nipple the whole time, so you never have to switch. if not, I would still stick with registering for just the 0-3 nipple size and buy more later on if you are still using that bottle. the nipples aren't expensive at all.
I know some who have very finicky kids and have tried 4-5 types of bottles. we were lucky that we found one that worked for DS on the 2nd try. I have also heard great reviews on the Tommee Tippee bottles from England. BRU just got them in stock not too long ago.
We registered for two types of bottles, and included single bottles as well as variety pack/sets -- this way you wash the single bottle, see if baby/you like it before committing to the whole set... you can always return the set if it is unwashed/unopened.
We went with Dr. Browns and Playtex Drop-Ins. I love the Dr. Browns bottles, but they are a pain to travel/go out with, and require more effort to clean. These bottles really helped DD have less gas. The Drop-In's are super easy to travel with, as well as easy to clean. They also didn't give DD gas.
Oh that is SUCH a good idea!!
::runs off to update registry::
I'm planning on breast feeding but also have a question re: bottles. How many is the normal amount to register for? And does the ounce sizes matter?
