How many strollers do I really need?

I know I will need a jogging stroller and a light weight stroller. I am trying to think of "easy" which I know is an oxymoron when you are talking about babies but...

How many and what type do you recommend?

Re: How many strollers do I really need?

  • We just have an umbrella and a regular stroller.  The regular is a britax vigour - which they don't make anymore and I hate it.  The umbrella is McClaren and I really like it a lot. Only thing I'd change is to have the storage area bigger, but what can you expect from an umbrella stroller.  Never had a jogging stroller.

  • I wish I never bought the peg perego 4 years ago.  That thing still looks brand new.  Get a good umbrella for sure and that is all that I would have purchased.  We just never used a travel system and the jogging stroller (as much as I wish I would have used one) would be collecting dust at my house ;)  I can't run and push.....I am a klutz.
  • First, I am not on that often and just wanted to say congrats!!!! :)

We have one stroller, a Maclaren quest, and that's all we used. I sold our bulky Chicco travel system stroller on Craigslist since we never used it. I like the Maclaren but wish it had a tray (we bought one of those attach-on trays but it doesn't work as well).

  • We bought the Snap N Go for the carseat and I loved that thing.  So easy to just pull out of the car and go.  We have a Quest, as well, and really like it.  We don't use a stroller all that often, though, b/c both DH and I work, so when we are at home, we usually spend time at home with DS.  DH also wanted a bike trailer (b/c he was going to use it SO much **eyeroll**).  I made him get one that was a 2-seater (so we can use it for #2), and one that was a jogger, as well - just so we would have multiple uses.  Yeah, it's probably seen the pavement a total of 5 times, and DS is a year old!  Maybe we will use it more when he gets older?
  • We have two a Chicco umbrella stroller and large Chicco stroller that we bought in a set with the car seat.

We use the umbrella stroller for everyday things and use the large stroller for places like the Zoo, Rodeo, an other events.

  • I recommend having 3 -

Snap N Go for when they are infant carriers (or other simlar models) - absolute must imo.

Umbrella/lightweight stroller - we have a Maclaren (jogging strollers are bulky)

    Bob stroller for running/jogging.

this exactly. well, i only use my BOB for walking so we'll just say the last one is for exercise. ;)

We were really happy with this arrangement, too.  Now that we have two, we just have the Joovy Caboose Ultralight.  While I love it, I really miss the jogging stroller for exercise!

  • We did fine with just our Phil & Teds for sixteen or seventeen months.  The only reason we bought a lightweight stroller at that point was because we were going to New Orleans and I didn't want to push the P&T through Cafe du Mond and I was afraid it would be too warm to comfortably wear her.

Our P&T (and I know the Bobs) are carseat compatible so we'd just pop the car seat on it whenever we needed it.  They also fully recline, so you can use them from birth just by laying the seat down flat.

She's only been to the mall twice in her life and I never used it in stores, so we just really didn't need an umbrella stroller before our last vacation.

  • So far I have only needed one.  We have a Baby Jogger City Mini with the carseat adapter.  Without the adapter and seat it's about 17 lbs and folds with one hand.  It's 3 wheeled and has a skinny width so it's easy to manuever.  I use it for Stroller Fit and walks in the neighborhood as well as shopping outings, etc. and it's been fine. I also borrowed a Snap N Go from a friend but I haven't used it at all since I am finding that the Baby Jogger has fit all my needs so far.  LOVE it!!!

I forgot about the snap n go! We had one of those and LOVED it! After she outgrew that we switched to the Maclaren quest.

  • I have 3 and I'm about to add a 4th (Bob double).  I have a Chicco umbrella, a Bob single and the Maclaren stroller frame (which was AWESOME when DD was little).  Honestly if I had it to do over I'd skip the umbrella or get a nicer (Maclaren) umbrella.
  • We've only used one so far (bugaboo) and it should stay that way for a while. We might need an umbrella way down the road.
  • We bought a Snap N Go & a Baby Jogger City Mini.  The SNG is perfect.  I didn't want the huge travel system.  I love my City Mini.

I wouldn't mind a smaller umbrella stroller (like the Chicco one or something) for trips to the baseball park and when we go to Cowboy's games.  Something lighter and easier to carry.  But if not, I really like both strollers we have.  What I love about the City Mini is how it folds.  They both have their purposes.

If it's colder out, I like using the SNG so that DS stays more bundled up in the car seat.  If he's going to be in the stroller for a while, I like using the City Mini since it seems more comfortable.

ETA: my coworker calls strollers like the Bob & City Mini a BMW.  Meaning you pay for every extra thing - like cup holders.  However, for the City Mini it's not that expensive ($20) to get the attachment that holds cups.  It's worth it for IMO because I really love the stroller.

  • If I could do it all over again, I would have just got an all-terrain/jogging stroller (that the car seat can fit in) and a nice ubrella stroller.  I registered for the big travel system and really never used the big stroller.  I got a cheap jogging stroller and it folded up so much smaller than the travel system stroller, so I just used the jogging one all the time.  Now, I'm selling the travel system stroller (keeping the car seat for #2) and the cheaper jogging and getting a Bumbleride.  It's an all-terrain and nicer than the one I have.  Wish I would have done this to begin with!
  • We have 2 - a Maclaren Quest which I don't like, and a Baby Trend jogger from Target which I like a lot.

The basket underneath the Maclaren is too hard to get things in/out of, so I have to hang my purse off the back, and then if I try to take my kid out with the purse on the back the whole thing flips backward.  Major PITA.  I'd have gotten rid of it except my MIL bought it and it was expensive; I'd never hear the end of it, so I just suffer in silence.  I like my friend's Chicco stroller from her travel system a lot better.

I like the Baby Trend b/c of the pneumatic tires that rock on the walking trails around here, plus the basket is big and the sunshade is huge.  And it was only about $100.  I wanted a BOB Revolution but couldn't justify paying that much more at the time.  Later on we bought a bike trailer though, and it would have been nice to have the BOB and just buy an adapter kit for the bike.

If I had it to do over again I'd have bought a Chicco travel system and a Chariot jogger/bike trailer combo.

Yup.  Now, I haven't used the umbrella yet, but I don't doubt it will get a lot if use in the coming months.  I haven't used the SNG a ton, but the times I've used/needed it, it's been GREAT to have (i.e., navigating hospitals/professional buildings).  I don't have a BOB, but I do have a jogger  that the infant seat sits in, and it was indispensable early on for walking the dog, etc.  Lately I've been wearing C for walks (b/c the dog is a little freaked out by the stroller), but that isn't always going to work as well for me.

Don't make fun. I'm new at all of this. But for that jogger can you snap in ANY kind of carseat?
