Any Home Birth Moms here??

I would love to hear about your experience, I am seriously considering this route this time. I had a MW last time but had a hospital delivery.

Re: Any Home Birth Moms here??

  • nkintzel has had two home births.  I just emailed her, so hopefully she'll be able to pop in!

  • We are planning a homebirth with a CNM. After doing much research about homebirths, and about what are often routine interventions in hospitals, homebirth is the right choice for us.

My cousin recently had her 3rd at home. She has nothing but good things to say about it.

I'm looking forward to seeing what others have to say!

I'm planning a HB for next month :) DD was born in a freestanding birh center with CNMs, and one of the MWs I saw for pre/postnatal care there is now our HBMW. My house is split into three units, and one of the other tenants is studying at that BC and graduates next month so she'll be the second in attendance :D it's really neat what a small community this city becomes when you find a niche. There are a ton of wonderful stories, articles, and research on mothering dot com, and if you have any specific questions I'm generally much better about answering email than posting here. Pfplihal at gmail dot com. Congrats, and best of luck with whatever decision you make :)
  • I'm curious about this as well. I had s hospital birth (with a MW) last time, that ended up as a c-section. I'm convinced it I were at home, and more relaxed, and not hooked up to monitors/etc, I'd have been able to do it. So I'm curious about the experience for next timet.

  • Our first (and only so far) was a homebirth and I'm certain I would have been a c-section in the hospital. Water broken for ~54 hours, no contractions at all for 48 hours, had an intense early labor, but only an hour and a half of true active labor. Double nuchal fists, no tearing! :) Recovery was super easy and it was wonderful to be at home. We would absolutely do it again!
  • We had two homebirths, like Dobie said. It was AWESOME and I will NEVER labor and birth in a hospital again. I mean, I think we are done having kids, but anyway...

The experience was much more relaxed, comfortable and familiar than that of a hospital. (I have three kids, first was a hospital birth) I was able to labor in a way that was comfortable to me. For my last birth, we started off laboring by walking around the block, then spent a lot of time walking up and down my stairs and hanging out in my shower. It was good. Then, I popped into the birth pool, which was HEAVEN. My midwife and doula were super, but also very hands-off when needed. My mom made taco salad while I labored with my husband.

Feel free to PM with any specific questions.
