Honestly, acrylics are gross. I used to keep my nails done...until I had my kids. Notice...when you paint acrylics red...and then take the polish off how they stain that color. Or even if you spill wine on them....the stain. AND they never come clean. They're porous and hold germs...no amount of scrubbing can really get them all out. So..picture walking around with germs from every surface you touch....truly disgusting.
I got acrylics once a long time ago and will never get them again. Plus my nails are awesome since getting pg. It's actually hard for me to keep up with keeping them the length I like, which is generally a little shorter since I'm on a keyboard all day.
I probably wouldnt' have done it anyways because I have decent natural nails - especially now that I'm pregnant. But my OB said that the chemicals they use are not proven to be either safe or hazardous since everything you put on your nails gets obsorbed in. And breathing in the fumes hasn't been tested much either. She said she doesn't recommend it but its my choice since there's such little testing done on it. So even if I had bad nails, I probably wouldnt' have done it anyways.

My nails have been growing really well since I've been pregnant so I haven't needed to get them. I used to get them all the time but just haven't needed to since my vitamins are working wonders on my real nails.

This is how I'm starting to feel. I was getting all excited thinking of doing them for my baby shower, but now the more i read it sounds like there is no significant proof "either way", but we already know chemicals in general DO absorb through our skin. Even everyday lotions we use. Soo, I guess try to minimize the exposure the best you can?
I may go with just doing my nails at home with a Formaldehyde free polish. If I can find one. :P
My nails would be nice during pregnancy.. if I didn't pick them. Nervous tick!
I just starting Acrylics again in this past month and of course I thought it would be awesome to get dark blue the first time...yeaaaaah should have thought about how fast my nails are growing so luckily the place I go to is cheap and I just got light pink and it seems to be lasting longer.
Why not? Because they tear up my nail bed and they require maintenance. I would rather get a manicure. My nails are growing like weeds anyways, so why not take advantage?
For me they are very dated, very 80's. Actually I feel that way about long nails generally, I prefer nails on the shorter side, just long enough for a french. Also, have you ever tried to scratch an itch with acrylics? So not satisfying. Plus, the cost and the damage that they do? No thank you.

Acrylics are SOOO much maintenance and DH hates them. Plan on getting mani's and pedi's though!
Sorry for being mean but I think acrylics are tacky. I'm a fan of manis and pedis though!
I've had acrylics during this pregnancy, but I've never gone into a nail salon. I do them myself.
This. My MIL always gets them with all gaudy designs stenciled on...they just look silly to me.
