Is anyone a sales manager at a hotel?

I have an interview as a sales mgr at a hotel next week and have tried looking online for salary range, but have found really different answers.  If anyone is willing to share can you PM me what you think the salary range would be?  TIA!

  • I used to be a HR Director for a hotel and to answer your question it will depend on the hotel. There's a big difference between a sales manager at a smaller property with a few meeting rooms as opposed to a larger property with 50,000 sq foot meeting space where corporate business is their bread and butter. To give you a ballpark, around $30-45k would probably be a pretty good guess. If you don't have any hotel sales experience, you're probably looking at the lower part of that range.

  • My friend Tara is... she works for Marriott.  I don't knoiw how much she makes, but she makes decent money.  HOWEVER.  I talked to her a few months ago about her job, and she has a love/hate relationship with it.  She has to work all the time, weekends, nights, and she is missing a lot of her 18 month old growing up.  She likes planning the weddings and events, and likes her flexible schedule, but she doesn't like her job at all, for several months of the year, she's working late every Friday and all day Saturday with weddings.

So, just something to think about.

thanks for the info!  I am currently working in a hotel managing group room blocks and their billing.  I have been there for three years and have had 5 years of sales experience before that.  the only thing I am hesitant about is that the hotel where I work now is a real posh hotel by the ocean. this new hotel I am interviewing for is more of a national chain place an hour away.  Im not sure it is a right fit, but in your opinion, do you think me asking $40,000 would be ok?

  • You can certainly try to negotiate $40k, it's worth a shot and seems reasonable but see what they offer you first. What kind of sales is it-Catering, Business transient, SMERF..?

  • they didnt say in the post.  I am really not trying to be a brat about this new hotel, but I get the feeling it just isnt the caliber of hotel where I work currently, but am wiling to be at any job where I can make more $$ for LO.
  • I don't think you're being a brat at all. The caliber of the hotel can affect how much money you make, and since you're looking to move up and make more money it's definitely a factor. I hope it all works out for you-keep us posted on how it goes. Good luck!
