Help me - CD poop explosions!

I am asking the kind CD goddesses to help me out with my latest CD issue...poop explosions.  After telling all my friends & family how great CDs are because we haven't had leaks or explosions, I started getting leaks.  I chalked these up to leaving them on too long, to his weird "in-between fit" stage these days, or possible need to strip (I planned to ask for info on here).  Now, in the last two days I have had two full blown poop explosions - yuck! Stick out tongue Both while we were out, what a mess!

Both happened in Thirsties AIO - 1 with a doubler, 1 just the AIO.  The diapers had been recently changed.  His poops have been somewhere between the BM only thin poops & the peanut butter poops when you introduce solids - I think because of teething?  The Thirsties have done fine from BM only on up to now, but the last two days they are leaking when he poops - mostly out the legs, from what I can see.

Ideas?  He is tall & skinny and now that he is crawling & standing I am seeing more leaks/wetness around the legs and even top - I think the diapers/covers move and cause wicking?  But I don't get the poop explosions - my friends are not going to believe the ease of cloth if they keep witnessing these explosions like you get with sposies.  Oh, and I have tossed them all in the dryer to make sure everything is sealed.

Also, how do I strip?  I bought the dawn & have a top loader...what do I do?  TIA

  • Sounds like you aren't getting a good fit around the leg, don't know if its the type of dipe or operator error, but when they start moving around more, its much more important to make sure the legs are snug (which might be hard if he has skinny legs, especially with certain dipes - don't know which ones work for skinny legs as my DD is a chunker).

  • I had Thirsties AIOs and after a period they didn't work for DD any more.  We were having leaks out of the legs.  We switched brands of diapers (they were super easy to sell on CL for like 70% of the price since they were in good condition) and haven't had problems since.  We had one poopsplosion but she had some sort of reaction to food and was in her carseat and the crotch strap had shoved the MF of a pocket to the side so it went straight from bum through suedecloth to PUL.

I loved Thirsties covers, but found the AIOs to not have as great of a gusset/shape around the legs.  I wish I could tell you something else.  Doesn't sound like repelling so I don't think stripping will help the situation.
