Tell me about bleach and CDing

I asked about this in a previous post...but, I'll open it up to everyone.

I'm stupid and I thought you could only use bleach on white clothes because well, it would bleach the color out of non-whites.  But, obviously that's not true if people use bleach in the CD laundry from time to time.  Explain this to me.  How can you use bleach to get the stink out of CDs?  I don't understand this...

Thanks.  I know I'm an idiot.  :(

  • Don't feel too bad, I have wondered this as well for a long time.  Maybe someone can clue us in!

  • I don't have a scientific answer or a reason for you.  I can just say that I was worried about bleach on the colored PUL as well, but nothing happened to the color when I used bleach on my CDs.  I only did it once to get rid of bacteria, so maybe over time the bleach would cause more fading?
  • I *think* it's all in the amount and type of bleach you use. Several items of my (colored) clothing say to use non-chlorine bleach.
