How do you do it? We're going to have a garden this year and I am trying to figure out how to work it logistically. Noel is a little bit of an issue but he's fairly self sufficient and will probably play on his own or dig around the edges of the garden with me jumping in to play with him here and there. Ariel though, is total "pay attention to me every minute girl" I've thought of putting her in her exersaucer but she won't usually stay happy in that for more than 10 minutes so that only buys me so much time. Even laying her out on a blanket probably won't buy me more than 10 minutes. I usually carry her in a front or hip carry which I doubt is conducive to decent gardening but I could try to put her on my back and see how it goes but I'm not sure whether that would be hard on my back while hunched over gardening or not.
So what does everyone else do - do you just try to do most of your work when your spouse is home or do you have a game plan for being out with the kids?
Re: Gardening with kids or babywearing
DH wears DD almost all day - when he gardens he often does it just before her nap time and wears her on his back in the Ergo. Then she gets sleepy, he takes her upstairs and continues with the baby monitor. He can get a good hour with her on his back.
On weekends, we scramble outside once she is asleep when we want to do things together for the yard.
