Is there a difference in sizes? Someone asked me and I don't know (we're no where near either size and people want to know what to purchase for summer/fall)
I should add, Maddy is wearing anything from 18 months to 2T right now. It just depends on the brand whether or not if will fit her. Carter's 18 months. Gap: 2T, Children's Place: 24 months, Gymboree: 18-24 months
At this point we are telling people to buy in 2T hoping to get more wear out of it.

I wish there was an easy answer for this! It seems to really depend on the brand. Right now DD is still in 18 months but is borderline growing out of it, so everything spring/summer I'm getting her is a size bigger. Sometimes that is 24 months, sometimes it's 2T. I now go by the weight and length info on the label or size chart online. For example in Carters, she's getting 24 months stuff, but Old Navy is all 2T, same with Gymboree...etc.
One thing to keep in mind, almost all Old Navy pants/capris/jeans have adjustable waists starting with 2T sizes, but the 18-24 months. Some of them do, but not all. So with S, she's a tiny bit on the taller side so that works well for her - her waist is too small for 2T, but with the adjustable waist, they fit great and the length works well. Plus they'll last longer.

We have problems with the waists... they're just too big! Yesterday we had J in 6-12 month pants... ummmm so she wears anything from 12 month to 18 month stuff, mostly. But people are buying her bigger items, and I'm hoping she grows into them before the season ends

If folks are going to buy large, I would suggest the 2T pants with an adjustable waist - they are fantastic! ON, Target's OshKosh, and Childrens place all have them.
C is solidly in 2T, with some 3T and some 24 months thrown in. For 3T adjustable waist is a must (otherwise they fall down) and for 24 months, they must be longer than normal or shorts. I've held them up to determine which size to buy and in boys clothes the 24 month and 2T are almost always the exact same size. And sometimes the 2T and 3T are the same size. And at ON two weeks ago I bought a 4T t-shirt because it was about 1/2 inch larger than the 3T and that means he won't swim in it but it might last a week longer.
Re: sizing question... 2T versus 24 months?
I think... and somebody correct me if I'm wrong. 24 month tends to be wider (for a diaper baby) and 2T tends to be slimmer for a LO wearing underwear.
I could be completely wrong though. I do see a difference in length between the two sizes from what I have at home.
