3rd Trimester

Do people really do this?

I know we have probably all joked at one point or another about having a glass of champagne right after delivery. While I think that?s a great idea and all, (and Lord knows I could probably down a whole bottle alone after the process) I just can?t imagine actually bringing in a bottle and cracking it open in L&D. So, do you know anyone who actually has? Or do you plan to do this? Or wait until you get home? I don?t know why but I just have this mental image of everyone being so excited and popping open the bottle and toasting his arrival. But it seems weird.

ETA: Not to mention nursing right afterwards. Isn?t that a little early to be attempting to ?pump and dump??

  • yes - ppl really do this.

  • lol, yes, I have heard of this.  One of my friends actually made her husband go buy her a beer because she wanted one so bad.  I did get a bottle of pink champagne at one of my showers, and thought about it... but your right, I am going to BF and it is too early to "pump and dump" IMO
  • Yes people do this.
  • Yup, some people do.  I'm bringing sparkling grape juice to celebrate so I can BF right away.
  • When my mom delivered me they gave her a mini bottle of champagne in the hospital to go with her "celebration" dinner (steak, lobster, all that fancy stuff).  She didn't drink it, but kept it for like 19 years before it was lost during a move.

  • Yep, MIL plans to bring a bottle to the hospital when they come.  I figure I'll have 1/2 a glass or something - not enough to make a difference with BFing.
  • My friend just had her baby last week and when I went to visit them in the hospital, they had already cracked open the champagne and had it on the sink counter!

  • Oh yes.  Mind you, it was 30 years ago, but my IL's did that when SIL was born.  They even gave some to her Tongue Tied.

  • I don't plan on doing it. I've made it this long, I can wait a few more days! Plus, I plan on BF-ing only in the hospital, not allowing her any bottles or pacis.

  • I went to visit a friend right after she had her baby and they had a cooler in their room with champagne and beer!  That is the way to celebrate :)
  • Yes, people do it all the time and I will be one of them.  We saved one bottle of champagne from our wedding just for that reason.  Also, one glass of champagne will not require you to pump and dump.

  • Yep, we're taking 2 mini bottles of champagne.  My husband thought I was crazy when I mentioned it, but I want to celebrate, my husband and I like to celebrate with a little champagne, and I'll only have a few sips, I'm sure--not enough to prevent me from being able to breastfeed a couple hours later.
  • I know  girl who was doing vodka shots after her delivery. I should also point out that in general she's a fool of an individual and did shots while she was knowingly pregnant. So compared to some people some champagne is pretty tame. My hubbys going to have a Sunshine Wheat beer with a lemon on hand for me when Im ready!
  • I didn't know people did this but I will definitely be joining in! What a great way to celebrate!
