Success after IF

... and we need ear tubes.

I am actually feeling eager to get the tubes put in so the girls don't have ear infections and nose congestion all the time.  The only part that really worries me is the anesthesia.

If your baby had tubes put in, was it a big deal?  How did he or she act afterwards?  And, most importantly, did the tubes work at preventing future ear infections?

  • No experience with this, but just wanted to say I hope it goes smoothly and helps them with their ear infections.

  • Katie is getting tubes in a few weeks and I am looking forward to it for the same reasons. I have heard really good thing from other parents about how much they have helped.  Our ENT assures us that the anesthesia is very safe and little kids do really well with it. Hope the tubes help your girls!

  • we just got it done last week, so I can't say if it has helped yet.  He still has nose congestion.  my dr took out his adenoids which apparently really helps along with the tubes.

DS threw up the day after for 24hrs straight, but the dr thinks he had a stomach bug although I usually have a bad reaction to anethesia.  They thought it might be because of anthesia, but more likely a stomach bug since it started more than a day later.

It isn't that bad, but DS was out of it and just failing around - DH could barely hold him as he was arching his back -erally incosolable.  Once we got him the car, things improved.  the nurses were just hovering too much and it freaked him out.

  • It was SO not a big deal and she was back to her cheerful self within hours of the procedure. It helped drain out the fluid in her ears and has really helped with her language development. And no more ear infections since they were placed back in Oct.
  • DS was not back to his normal self even the next day, but he had a bad ear infection (he had fluid 4 days prior, but they were hoping he was OK for the surgery....not so much) and a cough, cold, etc.  Plus I think the extra part of getting the adenoids removed caused pain for him in his nose.
  • My DS just had them put in on Friday so I am not sure how they will help him in the future, but I'm confident they will!  The procedure was less than 10 minutes and was very simple.  DS was pretty out of it and cried pretty much the whole time in recovery (which is very unlike him) but took 2, 3 hour power naps and was back to himself by 4:00pm on surgery day.  We made sure to give him motrin and tylenol to keep him comfortable.

  • We did it last week and it was really quick and easy. Trig woke up totally pi$$ed after the anesthesia but was back to himself pretty quickly. Of course now he has a cold but I don't think that it necessarily had anything to do with the surgery, but doc says that the congestion could be from drainage. Who knows.
