Reese for a boy

Reese is a family name (great grandfather and down the line) and I've liked it for as long as I can remember - used it to name characters in short stories I had to write in middle school.  But now, it's become so popular for a girl that I'm not sure I want to use it for a boy.   Thoughts?

Also, middle name ideas?

Re: Reese for a boy

  • I don't love the name- reminds me of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups-- but I much prefer it on a boy.
  • Reese really doesn't bother me for a boy. Its always seemed gender neutral to me.

  • I like the name, although the Reese spelling generally makes me think girl.  I've mostly seen the Rhys spelling for a boy.
  • One of my best friends has a little boy named Reese, spelled like that. He is so damn cute! I love the name for a boy!
  • For middle names, Reese Thomas, Reese Jacob, Reese Evan, Reese Henry...

This - I know 2 boys named Rhys

  • I think it is fine for a boy or a girl.  I love the name!

  • I would do a very masculine middle name though.

    Reese Matthew

    Reese Jacob

    Reese William

    Reese Daniel

  • I don't love it, but that's because the only Reese I knew was the most nerdy red-headed & freckled kid I knew in highschool...

  • Thanks for your opinions ladies.  I don't prefer the Rhys spelling because I think it has a bigger chance to be misspelled/ mispronounced.  Reese is how our family name is spelled and I think it's actually the traditional spelling so I wouldn't want to mess with it.  Good call on masculine middle name!
  • I like it, I would go with something more traditional for a middle name like michael or something of the sorts.

  • I have the name Reese on my list for a boy...spelled Rhys.

My middle name choices are William or Miles.

Unless LO comes out looking definately like a Rhys, we have another name picked out.

    Good Luck!

  • No matter what it is popular for right now, it sounds like a boy's name to me.

  • I love Reese for a boy and I wish people wouldn't ruin it by using it for a girl. It's not very common at this point so I think you would be safe to use it for a boy name. Especially since it has family significance.
