Baby Dolls

When did your LO start taking interest in dolls?  And is there a particular doll (brand name) that you LO likes?  Whenever we go through the doll isle at Target DD gets excited.  Although she might not play with one often I thought it might be nice to get her one, especially with the baby coming soon.  They had one at Target that is about the size of a newborn and it makes sounds when you press its belly (although I think that'll still be difficult for her to do) and it comes with a bottle.  Do you think this would be appropriate for her?

Re: Baby Dolls

  • My DD favorite baby doll is a Gotz brand doll MIL found at a discount store. It has vinyl arms, legs and head.  Soft body.  Looks like a newborn with no hair or anything. She started playing with dolls between 18 and 24 months if I remember correctly. We have a few others, but none that do any fancy tricks like make noise, or pee.  I think at that age I would find something that was soft and not too heavy.

  • DD loves LOVES her babies.  She got her favourite one for Xmas when she was 16 months.  She's been feeding her and caring for her ever since.

I'm picky about toys for DD...  but I really like these Corolle dolls from France.  The Caucasian ones didn't appeal to me, so she has the Asian one.  She's gorgeous IRL.  We've messed her hair up so it looks like DD's did when she was born. She's smaller than an average human newborn, but the way she's weighted feels like she's real.  And she smells good, too for some reason.

We have lots of the accessories, too.  The feeding set.  The bath set.  Stroller, moses basket, sleep sack.  A few outfits.

Not cheap, but worth the money for the quality IMO.  Actually, DD and I were looking through a magazine in our hair salon while waiting one day.  Suri Cruise was dragging this exact doll along.  DD said "Look Mom!  That little girl has my baby Calin!"

  • My daughter loves her baby dolls.  That is really the only thing she actually plays with longer than 5 seconds.  She loves her bitty baby, but really, she's not particular.  She really likes to clean up her poopy and pee diapers.  She goes and gets her wipes.  I need to get her some more diapers for them.  She no longer wears them, so we don't have them around the house.

  • Hayden started loving her dolls around 18 months. Her current favorite is the little Cabbage Patch newborn babies that are soft and made for all ages.

  • dd had a favorite soft doll and the cabbage patch newborn at age 1.  she loved them... then her brother was born... since then she has had little interest in dolls... more into animals.  although lately she's been telling me her little brother is a kid now and that she needs a new diaper baby.  I ask, what about a baby doll?   no,  I need a new diaper baby .  Not gonna happen, sweets!
  • Rory will really play with any baby doll and her favorite for awhile was a Cabbage Patch one. She got a bitty baby for her birthday and that is now her favorite. When she asks "where's my baby" we know which one she's talking about. She does still play with the others though.
  • I wouldn't worry too much about what type of doll to get. DD has a pricey Bitty Baby, a doll from Target's dollar bin and many in between. If it's a doll, she loves it. Doesn't matter what features it has. I'd say she started liking dolls at about 20 or so months. Have fun!

  • My DS loves his "baby". It is also a Corolle doll. It's a boy as well. I love the feel of it. He mainly sleeps with it or wants it when he is sad. But he will at times play with it. He starting liking it around 15mo. He was never interested in a stuffed animal, but baby was his favorite as soon as he met a real life baby.
  • She started loving them around 18 months.  She plays with her dolls almost every day.  I don't think it matters to much what brand, but we have a few of the Circo ones from Target and DD loves these best right now.  They have a soft weighted body with hard arms, legs, and head.  They have a lot of accessories for them at Target too!
