anyone??
just found out i have to get one of these before the recovery team can try to recover my data - we'd planned to get one anyway to make sure all our baby stuff was safe (just didn't get to researching before mine self destructed). just curious if any of you have one or have used one and can recommend a brand or anything..
Re: NEFR: rec your external hard drive backup
mozy.com has a $60/year membership for unlimited backup, or free for up to a certain amount of memory. It's really easy to use, and their customer service is fabulous.
I just use that, so I have no recs for a physical second hard drive.
Does this mean you found someone to do your data recovery?

i took your advice and contacted people outside my own area and decided that one guy sounds like the way to go. he thinks it should be a simple drive transfer and that the OS probably just had an irrecoverable error and not the drive itself which would be nice.
the only issue is that he said today wasn't a great day to come by because their office building is without power from all the rain etc. i wonder if i contact dell and tell them it's taking some time to get my data off the old drive if they'd give me more than the 10 days to return it to them. i mean it's only been about 2 days so far but i get nervous..

I have recently switched to LaCie rugged external hard drives for backup and to store photos, music, etc. They are darn patootin' ugly but they are sturdy.
Previously I used Western Digital because my first one I liked because it was the size of a deck of cards and was shiny and red. But I found it very user-friendly and started using them for my husband's photography business and backups. It takes 2 USB ports for power, but I find it worth it for usability and durability.
I switched to LaCie because I carry one external hard drive with me always since I work off three different computers for my job and my Western Digital one couldn't handle all the banging around and my klutzy self. Also Western Digital changed their style and workings for their external hard drives and they aren't quite as user friendly for backups any more (see Amazon reviews).
