2nd or more time moms

After reading the "Am I ready for this" post, I thought it would be nice to hear what the best part of being a mom is. What moments make you feel wonderful. As someone said, everyone talks about how your life will change when you have a child but it is mostly about what you have to give up. Let's hear some of the amazing things!

Re: 2nd or more time moms

  • The first time she said, "I love you, Momma."  BEST thing I have EVER experienced.

  • Oh wow. Where to start.

When he first followed things with his eyes.

When he would sleep in my arms or on my chest, any time, any age

When he holds my hand to walk

When he gave me a kiss for the first time, or any other time

    When he hugs me

When he fed himself for the first time

When we look at him sleeping.

When he "talks" on the phone.

When he cries and throws fits

When he splashes in the bathtub

When he cuddles us at night when we read to him

    I could go on....

  • There are so so so many ...

His smile - the first and every single one after

    The sound of his laugh

When he plays "sneak up" on people

When he took his first step

The look of pride on his face when he figures out how to do something new

His generous hugs, kisses, and even licks!

How proud he makes his grandparents and great grandmother - they are all so in love

How he makes everyday of my life a challenge, rewarding, fulfilling, and filled with love.

  • I love when my daughter, out of the blue, decides she wants to hug and snuggle.  There is nothing better than a hug and kiss from your baby.  Oh, and man, I miss breastfeeding sometimes; I did it for 13 months and the bond she and I shared is something that just cannot be expressed.  Being a mommy was the best thing to ever happen to me--it made me realize my own worth.  Dang it, now I'm tearing up! :)
  • I love holding my daughter's hand.  She's older now, so that makes it even more special.

Hearing her speak, and knowing that she's so articulate because I did that.

Watching her run around with other kids.

  • my little man is almost 5... the other night when i put him to bed i gave him a big hug and told him he was the most special little boy in the world... he had his little arms around me and rubbed my back and said, "you are the best momma ever -i love you"... i don't know where it came from and i don't care- i just know i will remember that night for the rest of my life - {and will probably have to replay it in my mind constantly once he hits the teenage years!!} being a mom is hard - but also the most wonderful thing in the world :)
  • It's impossible to list all the things I love about being a mother.  All I can say is from the instant he got here, he makes everything better.  I don't care how crappy of a day I have, when I see that little face, none of it matters.

  • There are oh so many amazing things. Just a few of my favorites are/were:

Cuddling her on my chest while she slept.
Hearing her call me "mama" and "mommy" for the first time.
Walking into her room after a nap and seeing her sitting up in her crib for the first time on her own.
Having her tell me "I love you Mommy" or "I missed you Mommy" when I pick her up after work.
    Reading stories to her.
Having her ask for a song I started singing to her the day she was born.
Being the one she comes to when she is upset or sleepy.
Watching her cuddle with her Daddy.

I can't believe I get to do all of that again!

  • Thanks for sharing everyone!
  • There are soooo many!!! Starting the second you hear them cry and get to kiss their face. Every time I hear my DD laugh or say "Love you Mami" (mommy in spanish) my heart melts. Having her RUN with wide open arms to me when I get home or when I pick her up from daycare. Listening to her sing or watching her dance. Seeing how kind she is to everyone - our pets, other kids/babies, her dollies, etc. Listening to her wake up on the monitor - she talks to her dollies or sings or whatever. Catching her pretending and imagining stuff when she doesn't know you're watching. Seeing her try to act like me.

These are just the most recent things. I could write a novel about all the amazing parts of being a Mom!!!

  • Being a mother is just the most amazing thing!  Seeing her smile, her "talking" to herself in the morning when she is in her crib, saying mama, giving hugs and kisses, holding my hand, coming up and sitting on my lap, sharing her food with me, her chubby little cheeks, her temper tantrums when I don't let her chew on the dog's bone, when she wakes up in the middle of the night crying and just melts in my arms and falls back asleep, and so on... Every little thing she goes is so amazing and I cherish every moment.
  • Oh man! I just put on mascara and all these posts are making me cry! It's all so true. The hugs, the kisses, the "I live you mommy", the giggles... It's all so worth it and I can't wait to do it again!

  • I forgot about the HUGS and KISSES!!!! Ugh! This is making me miss my girl even more than I normally do! haha

this.  especially because DS was a very late talked, and did not say it until after 2 yr 7 months!!  it was a long time waiting!!

  • Nursing in the middle of the night - the still and quiet of the day and having a precious moment with your baby.

Knowing that you and your husband created something so beautiful and he/she is a combination of only the two of you.

Catching all of the firsts - first smile, first coo, first time to grab something, first time to sit up, first time to walk - and then falling into you, first time to talk, first time to point at something in a book - and knowing you had a part in each first.

Picking them up at school, or the nursery or the gym and watching them RUN to you in excitement.

Watching DH come home from work and the kids RUN to him and climb on top of him, yelling "Daddy!!!!"

Being the one who can fix their boo-boos, calm their fears, dry their tears, put them back to sleep, comfort them.

Everything.  Its hard work, but its worthwhile - its the most amazing gift to be a mother and to watch your child learn and grow and experience life.

  • Everything he does is the best thing in the world.  :-)  I love it when he says Dada in his high pitched way...all day every day.  lol.  The way he only says Mama when he's upset of sad.  Poor baby.  His love for the cats and the "gentle" way he pets them.  Everything that the PPs said.  It's all amazing.

I tell DH every day that he's the best thing in our lives.  DH agrees.  :-)
