I confirmed my pregnancy two days before I was scheduled to speak at the South By Southwest Interactive conference.I was so excited, because it was my first solo talk there, and I'd really worked to win my speaking slot.
I love the expression, "If you want to make Gd laugh, tell him your plans." I was scheduled to speak at 5pm, and right on schedule, my "morning" sickness arrived at the same time.
Fifteen minutes before my start-time, I handed my laptop to a volunteer to set up (there was a big projection screen, a sound system and everything) and hustled off to the ladies room to quietly lose my lunch.
I love this little baby. I'm glad s/he is making her presence known, and I was proud to present my talk (a bit shaky at first) with her there to witness.
Re: Speaking at a conference...with morning sickness
OMG that is so hilarious. I'm grateful that I got a little privacy. I love that story. How awesome of you. In a way, it's kind of cool that we have the option to be open about our news and barf in the court if needed.
I'm glad I had the chance to speak to that big room full of (mostly male and oblivious) guys, despite my delicate condition. A few decades ago we'd have both been confined to our chambers, and never had the option to educate/argue/vomit upon our peers.
Oh man ladies! I can imagine the feeling!
I hope you feel better, but def. in the same boat! Luckily my exper. only involved one patient at work... so not fun!
