Easter egg help

We are having DH's family over after church on Sunday. I wasn't planning to do anything for DD, but SIL has decided she wants to do an Easter egg hunt with the 2 little girls.

We don't allow DD to have candy or anything like that...so what else can go in those stupid little plastic eggs? Toys seem to be too small & could be swallowed (DD still puts things in her mouth) - so I just have no other clue...

Ideas?

Re: Easter egg help

  • put a little picture of a bigger toy in the egg, then have the toys/prizes ready for the child.

    stickers? Raisins? Cookies?

also, they make larger eggs that you might be able to fit some little toy into. they are hard to find and more expensive though.

at her age, just the egg itself is a toy :)

  • my family used to put money in them...maybe you could do some kind of fruit snacks instead of candy?  or stickers?
  • My vote is for Fruit Loops.

I don't know if you're joking or not...but in my book Fruit Loops = candy!

  • I like the stickers idea. We haven't ever given any to her before, but she would probably like them.
  • we did those Florida Natural fruit nuggets in eggs for my nephew last year, and Kennedy's had puffs in them.

Yogurt Melts? Crayon Rocks (if you can find them local)?

ETA: here's the fruit nugget info: https://www.floridasnatural.com.au/ I've gotten them at target.

  • I dont know if I am the only one here, but as kids we always used the eggs we dyed the day before, not the plastic eggs.

    This^^

Other ideas I have heard - goldfish, pretzels,  puzzle pieces so when they are done they can put the puzzle together, finger puppets, deflated balloons (if you are willing to blow them up when she figures out what it is Wink) . . .

  • I was thinking I'd just put goldfish or some other similar snack in them.  Just a couple in each egg will suffice for DS as I'm sure the egg will be much more interesting than what's inside.
  • Man...I must be a bad mom. I'm loading ours up with jelly beans & coconut kisses.Sad

  • How would it work? If you're doing an egg hunt w/ another family, will they be bringing eggs w/ candy and, if so, how will you keep DD from finding and opening those?  I'm running into the same logistical issues so I'm curious how you'll handle that.

That said, I'd fill her eggs w/ whatever snack you like, stickers (though you really have to monitor where they stick them- watch for them in pockets, etc), or your could just print off little animal pictures or something else. I think at this age the fun is finding something inside, no matter what it is :)

    We're vegan - so that won't be happening! :)

Finger puppets are a great idea! I'm going to Ikea today & I know they have them there!
