Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Am I doing something wrong? 6 month old sleep...

My LO has NEVER STTN...Just turned 6 months and still up twice to eat... I don't know what I am doing wrong. I put her to bed anywhere between 6:45 and 7:45 (when she's tired and our "routine" is done), I never talk to her or engage her in the middle of the night or change diapers... and I try to feed her as much as I can during the day (I EP).

Everyone I know has LO STTN or only waking up once. I don't have a problem putting LO to sleep at night, she goes down fine. I also don't rush to her when she first wakes in the night...but she'll just escalate her talking/coughing/complaining/crying... I have really thought of just letting her CIO and I never thought I would even consider that.................

I'm just tired.

  • DS still wakes up every 3 hours. Hope that makes you feel a little better. I figure, he'll only be this little once, and if he needs me (for whatever reason), I'll be there for him.
  • Loading the player...
  • DS still doesn't STTN either. I'm getting frustrated too, but I don't want to consider CIO. Good luck!
  • Are you doing solids?  If so, you might want to add a 2nd or 3rd meal.  Try adding another ounce of breastmilk to the bottle to see if that will hold her over for a longer period of time.

GL and bless your little heart!  I hope you get some rest soon!

  • You're not doing anything wrong.  If you scroll back through a few days worth of posts, you'll find there are tons of LOs who aren't STTN (mine included).  I understand the tired.  DD wakes up multiple times at night.  We're trying the Ferber method (we're on night 2), and so far it seems to be working a little bit.  I never thought I would let LO CIO either (and it's been really hard for me so far), but she needs to learn how to put herself asleep and get good sleep through the night.  Ferber gives specific directions on how to do CIO, and it allows you to check on LO.

  • DD wakes up once or twice (mostly twice) at night. I'm trying to figure out how to cut out the second feeding, but when I don't feed her she just keeps waking up until I do. It's so much better than some people I know who still get up every 2 hours or so, so I'm not complaining.

This is us too. She'll STTN when she's ready. I'll get more sleep then :)

  • We had the same issue and our pedi said to stop feeding him at night. Well, I didn't want to since he actually was hungry, so I just kept going as it was. Then DS slept 7am-7pm, all of a sudden. He did it most nights for a month (not anymore, but that's another story). So maybe your LO will just figure it out by herself.
  • DS doesn't STTN either.  His sleep was bearable (up 2-3x usually) until he hit 8 months.  Then it all went to hell.  He would wake up, then be up for 3-4 straight hours.  It was awful.  We've started sleep training and it's been much better, so far.  You're not doing anything wrong =)

Exactly this for us too... bedtime 7pmish (6:45 tonight), she'll usually wake to eat around 11 or 12, then is up at either 2 or 5am to eat.. Just depends on the night.  :(
