wrist pain?

i have severe wrist pain, tendinitis i guess, from breastfeeding holds. i did the "test" (folding thumb into hand grasp like a closed thumbs up and tilting forward) and was almost brought to tears by the pain.

i've read that steroids and surgery are options or stopping the activity that causes pain, but i can't do any of those. i take tylenol or advil but it does little to manage. anyone else? any suggestions? i've been trying to adjust my hand holds but he unlatches when not "just right".

Re: wrist pain?

  • Tendinits of the wrist is very common in new moms. One of my friends just went through p/t and some sort of steriod or shot (I'm not sure) to treat hers.  A lot of times its caused by lifting up the baby and putting strain on your wrists/hands/arms that they aren't use to.  My friend now picks her son up with her forearms as much as possible (sounds funny, yes I know) to avoid the pain.

  • I've been having this also.  It started out just hurting in the morning but is getting to the point where I am scared to pick up DS because it hurts so bad and I'm afraid I'll drop him. The dr said it was from sleeping wrong on my wrists (having them bent) and from holding DS with my wrists strained.  At night I wear wrist braces with a small rod in them to keep them straight (the kind you can buy at wal-mart and flexible wrist supports during the day.  It's not making it go away completely but it is helping.

I had this at first but it got better as DS got bigger and I don't need to support his entire body weight when I nurse anymore.

Can you do the football hold? It might help to switch up your positions.
