I'm bummed out. I had my 36 week appt today and my dr told me I'm GBS+. For some reason I had a feeling the past couple weeks that the results would come back positive...motherly intuition I guess. She wants to induce me at 39 weeks in order to make sure I get adequately treated during labor. I wanted to go into labor naturally so I feel very sad today after hearing the news. Has anyone gone through or currently going through what I am??? Please help provide me with some comfort! TIA!!
Re: :( Found out today I'm GBS+...getting induced at 39 weeks.
Is the GBS+ the only reason she is inducing? If you feel strongly about going into labor naturally, I would ask if you can postpone that until at least your due date--if not, a few days later.
I'm GBS+ this time and the dr. seemed to act like it was no big deal--they'll just give me as many of the antibiotics as possible in the hospital (ideally, over 4 hours).
I was induced with my first at 40wks, 5 days--but that was because the dr. wouldn't let me go past 41 weeks. I've not heard of anyone being induced for GBS.
Good luck!
:: un-lurking to say::
My doc said the same thing. She did not act like it was a big deal, and just may have me come in when the contractions are a bit further apart (8-10 minutes instead of 5)
Maybe you should talk to her again if you really don't want to be induced.
Rather than my thoughts consuming on going "naturally," I want to do what's best for my baby. My dr. is big on treating GBS in order to prevent sepsis and other serious complications. So far I'm a fingertip and 25% effaced, which is small progress but my mother had 3 dangerously fast labors in which she almost lost my brother. Definitely not saying I'm going to go into labor quick like my mother, but her and I have had incredibly identical pregnancies so far (so I guess I have to somewhat consider the risk). I could always choose to wait until my due date, so I guess I'll see what my progress is at 38 weeks and then maybe make the decision???
Ditto.
I have GBS and they told me all I have to do is be put on antibiotics in the IV when I go in. They also said if my water breaks go in asap and get antibiotics.
I'd decline. The more medical interventions they do, the higher chance of a c-section you have. GL
I guess it depends on how high the risks are of your LO contracting GBS and having serious problems with it vs. the risk of early induction which could lead to a c/s, which also has risks to you and the baby. It's a tough decision- I think making your decision at 38w is a good idea. Though, unless your doc is truly concerned about you having a super fast labor, I can't imagine why she'd want to induce a 1st time mom early just because of GBS. Good luck!
