Anyone not get the quad screen??

This may sound selfish, but I'm not sure now if I will get it b/c of how much it will cost out of pocket. By my calculations, it will be $300...and that's after the insurance "discount". Insurance is so expensive to begin with and then you still have to pay a ton on top of that. It's very frustrating. I'm pretty sure I got this with DD, but I'm sure it didn't cost me this much.

I didn't get it. I was being seen at a military hospital at the time and they advised against it based on the prescreening questions.

I didn't have the quad screen for two reasons.

One, I lost my paperwork and actually forgot.

Two, I'm deathly scared of needles unless it's absolutely required, such as blood draws to make sure she's growing correctly, and I didn't feel like paying for it. My SO and I have no genes (we've both been tested as our parents regular check up requirements) and found no reason in worrying about it. :]

We decided not to- it wasn't a money issue (we have crazy good insurance), but it just wasn't worth the paranoia (and possible risk from the amnio) for us.

We choose not to because it would not change anything for us, but it is a very personal decision.

We also chose not too with either pregnancy. It would not change the outcome so why go through the stress, worry and money.

I didn't get the quad or trip screen. My decision had nothing to do with money though. We chose not to do it because it wouldn't matter what the results were. We'd love our LO no matter if he had a genetic defect or not. Plus, didn't fit any of the high risk categories so it was an easy decision for us. If you're worried about money and aren't at risk for genetic defects I wouldn't worry about it.

We chose not to. We decided we are having the baby regardless of any health issues or challenges he/she may face, so in order to avoid the undue extra worry, we opted out of it. It's a very personal decision.

My dr. kept suggesting that we do the tests since I will be 37 when our second child is born. I know that if I had done the tests I would be so horribly stressed. Also even knowing the risks my husband and I live by the rule that you are never given more than you can handle, even if sometimes you really question it Smile

i decided not to do it either. actually, my ob kind of suggested i not. as it would not have changed our minds no matter what, she said i'm too neurotic and this would just cause extra worry. she said false positives are common and then what, you worry for the next 6 months.

We chose not to.. I am a total worrier and it would have stressed me out too much for something that isn't diagnostic. It only gives a probability and I'm not willing to have an amnio, so it wouldn't change anything.

Thanks everyone! I just want to say that the outcome wouldn't change anything for us either. I think I would want to be prepared, but I'm not going to worry about it. DD is fine and DH and I are not high risk and don't carry anything, so we will just enjoy the rest of the pregnancy!

Less needles works for me too!
