Anyone use a nanny?

I HAVE to start thinking about going back to work...but I'm not sure daycare is the place for DD (for a variety of health and developmental concerns).  A friend of mine and I have discussed sharing a nanny...but how in the world do I go about finding one?!

Re: Anyone use a nanny?

  • I started the search 5 months prior to when I was needing the Nanny {after 2 mos ML}. I exhausted what resources I knew of:  friends telling friends, Facebook, church e-mail list, neighbors...and then when DS was 1 mo old, I was still searching after 2 of my nanny-options fell through {found out one was a smoker & the other went back to school}.  I cautiously searched on Craigslist...then found www.care.com  It's like an Online resume search...if you find an applicant you're interested in then you subscribe to be able to communicate with them. You can also post a local ad and there's background checking available too.

I have to say that the thought of finding a childcare provider on the Internet still kind of weirds me out but we got lucky I guess. I found ours from www.care.com and one year later our nanny is still with us!

I also have a neighbor who is doing an Au Pair program...that was an option I considered as well but didn't like the idea of having to provide another vehicle/car insurance for someone {although my neighbor didn't uphold that part of the program requirement...not sure how they got away with it}.

  • I used to be a full-time nanny and live-in nanny when I lived in Atlanta.  I highly recommend care.com.  It's good for both parents and nannies.
