Babies: 9 - 12 Months

When did you first see the OB?

My SIL just found out she is PG but the OB doesn't want to see her until she is 9-10 weeks. I saw the OB at 6-7 weeks. Just wondering if that seems like a long time?

Re: When did you first see the OB?

  • I saw him at 6 weeks...  to confirm

some wait as long as like 13-15 weeks....

  • 7-8 weeks.  9-10 does seem like a long time.
  • I was 11 weeks.

  • 10 weeks. A lot of practices won't see until the end of first trimester.
  • 5 or 6 weeks. But the second was a while after that. I don't think it's a must to see them that early though.
  • well, i may be an odd duck. i didn't find out i was pregnant until i was 16 weeks, so i saw her at 18 weeks. we did EVERYTHING at that appointment. i was there for like 3 hours.

  • I was 10 weeks. My OB won't see you until 10-12 weeks, unless you are high risk, previous miscarriage, etc.

  • 9 wks I think? I called right after I got the positive almost hyperventilating expecting them to send the pregnancy police to come get me or something.  I was like "What do you mean you have an opening in OCTOBER?!!?"

  • I was considering switching OBs when I got my BFP - the new one didn't want to see me until 8 weeks pg, but my old one wanted to see me right away.  I felt like I had a lot of Qs, so I went to my old ob right away and stayed w/her.  It is normal for the ob not to want to see you until you are a bit further along though.
  • I saw my GP to confirm at 4 weeks and saw my OB at 9 weeks.

  • 6-7 weeks to confirm and to make sure it wasn't another ectopic pregnancy.
  • Unless there is an issue, 10-12 weeks is pretty common.
  • I was just past 13 weeks and it was a terribly long wait!
  • OB?  at 10w.   But since they were so booked up they couldn't get me in with a nurse to do all that paperwork crap.   So since I didn't have any of that done, the doc at my 10w appt just said "You're not in the computer, so all I can really do is an u/s for you and send you on your way".

Finally got my "initial" appt at 12w.

However, I did have an u/s at 5w6d with the RE and saw the heartbeat then - because the H/B had been seen, my RE "released" me from her care.

I like this story. I also like that lil' I is perfect.

  • Many of my friends with normal pregnancies weren't seen until 8-9 weeks, so I don't think it's that strange. My dr sees me right away cuz of female issues. And my last pregnancy we had one scare after another on the u/s so I may as well have moved into the dr's office. lol It was all worth it though and L is perfect so we're hoping the same for this LO.

  • I was about 5 weeks, but we needed to confirm dates. I think my doctor usually waits until closer to 10 weeks.

  • I saw my OB at 6-7 weeks too, but I've heard that 9-10 is pretty normal.

  • I was about 10 week-ish. That's the standard around these parts, unless you need to confirm date of conception or are high risk.

  • 11 1/2 weeks with my first pregnancy (saw the nurse weeks before that if I'm remembering correctly), and I saw the OB at just over 10 weeks with my second.

  • Saw the nurse for all the paperwork, etc at 7 weeks but didn't meet my OB until 10 weeks
  • I was scheduled to see my OB around 9 weeks, however due to hyperemesis I was already on bed-rest by that time and had been in to see them about 5 times by then. I don't think that it is weird or a long time for her to wait until 9-10 weeks. The OB office that I worked for also has new ob's wait this long to be seen.
  • 6-7 weeks, to get an accurate date for the pregnancy.

  • my obs office always wants you to miss 2 periods before they see you. i had my 1st ob appt. w/ dd when i was 12 wks along - that was the earliest they could get me in.

  • My OB's office policy is to see you at 10 weeks.   I saw her for a prenatal visit, so had discussed prenatal vitamins, and some other things with her.  It was a long wait for that appt!

  • They had me come in around 9 weeks.  I wanted to come earlier to confirm but they said HPTs are plenty accurate.
  • We were moving and my health insurance was a mess, so I confirmed at the health department as soon as I POAS (roughly 5-6 weeks), started taking prenatals and didn't actually get into a doc til 15-16 weeks.
  • I think my first appt. was at 12 weeks.
  • Please don't think I'm crazy...24 weeks. I had no idea - still getting periods, no weight gain, no fatigue - in fact, I felt best when I was pregnant. People probably want to hit me right now - but I just got really lucky.
