I hold him while im eating, getting dressed, cleaning, and he naps during the day on my chest. I try to put him down in his crib and he wants nothing to do with it. He immediately starts crying. He sleeps in a bassinet at night right next to my bed. Everyone thinks I'm spoiling him but I just don't want him to cry. I try to let him "self soothe" but he just works himself up that I am too weak and give in. I know that if things continue he will become a brat and I will really be kicking myself.

Re: holding LO too much??
I am curious what others say, because I'm in a similar situation! I can get about 30 minutes shifts in the swing or bouncy chair though.....
I don't want to spoil him......but when do you let them CIO??
My pedi told me that you can't spoil a newborn. He said we will be having a different conversation at his 2 month checkup. Until then I will do what I can to help my little guy make this huge transition.
And every now and then, I put him in his carseat, bassinett, or bouncy chair and let him cry. I can't hold him 24 hours a day. I do have to make myself lunch or use the bathroom. I figure he will be that much more happy when I pick him back up.

Babies go from being "held" in your womb for 9 months.. to being shot out and into this cold world! IMO they NEED to be held a lot until they can teach themselves to self soothe.. my DD is 2 months and we still hold her all the time.. she just getting to where she is starting to attempt to self soothe herself..
No such thing as holding a baby too much or spoiling a newborn. They NEED to be close to you, feel and hear your heartbeat, smell your smell etc... Please hold and snuggle him as much as possible. Before long, he won't sit still long enough.
Get a Moby wrap - it will free up your hands to get things done and DS will be comfy and content.
I understand. If one more person tells me I'm going to spoil my baby, or that she has "lap-itis" I'll slap them. lol You cant spoil a newborn. I hold Maddy a lot but I put her in her bouncy chair (esp if she has gas, the vibrations help), her swing, or her playmat and she likes those too for a little while. The bouncy seat is the one she will stay in longest. Or her Boppy if she's napping. Try those things if you have them.
Also, hold your baby with a blanket around them and when you put them down (esp in a boppy), they usually wont realize they arent being held by you. You gotta trick them.
I think it's important to hold your baby as they need you, but it is also ok ?to put them down when they're content, and they need to learn that they're ok, too. DD is fairly needy but I CANT hold her all the time when I have a house to run and a rambunctious toddler to take care of. Sometimes she cries, but she's fine. In your case, keep trying to put him down, especially times when he's most content (such as after a meal). And when he's napping, after he's asleep on your chest, put him down.?
He may become too used to being held, which could cause problems, or he could develops his own sense of independence and never want to cuddle again (ha! like my DS).
Good luck?
thank you so much ladies!! i do put him in his boppy to nap for a little. i know when he is about 4 months old it will be different and i will put him down for a morning/afternoon nap. but i know that im NOT crazy for holding him all the time. esp since his daddy isnt around i feel like i need to do it double time. plus he is so darn cute when he is drooling on my shirt while he is sleeping
He's a month old. He won't become a brat unless you're still doing this when he's a year old.
Tell "everyone" to STFU.
