A question about leaks

Okay Aubrey wears Swaddlers Size 2's.  The last three nights when she has woken up at 5 (last night it was 3:30) she has been soaking wet all up the front of her sleeper.  You'd think it was because her diaper is too small, but that isn't the case...she is only 15lbs and the diapers go up to 18lbs and she doesn't have this problem at all during the day.

It's like she is peeing up the front because the center of the diaper isn't very wet, but the front of the diaper is soaked.  I am guessing the front isn't as absorbent as the middle part.  I think it's because she squirms and moves all over the crib.  She flips over to her belly, pulls her knees up under her tummy and she scoots around...all in her sleep.  When I have changed her I notice that the front of her diaper is always crooked and scrunched down.   Again this only happens overnight.  She does the same thing during her naps but she never has this happen then.

Anyway it's causing her to wake up because she's uncomfortable.  We tried Pampers Baby Dry last night...same thing happened. I have some Pamper Size 3's and I tried one on her this morning but it is HUGE!  So I don't think it's a case of needing to go up a diaper size.  I obviously can't keep her from squirming.  I am not sure what I should do.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Re: A question about leaks

  • You might try to go ahead on try the size 3 diapers and see if there is a difference at all.

While they look a lot larger, we went ahead and moved K up to size 3 when she was about 15 pounds. (She is only 18 pounds now and has been wearing them for about 4 months.) But, she is very long for her age, which is why we went ahead and moved up.

  • I never paid any attention to the weights on diapers...it's really more of a suggestion, not a hard and fast rule.  If she had an issue, we just went up a size.  It ususally fixes the problem.
  • So ya'll don't think that even though the 3's are really big on her they'll lead to leaks?  It's weird to me that this doesn't happen at all during the day, only during the night.  But I'll try a 3 on her tonight and see if it fixes the problem.  If it does, would it be silly for me to use the 3's at night but the 2's during the day until I use our 2's up?
  • You could try putting them on her more in the front if that makes sense. Like have them go up higher in the front than in the rear. That is what I do with Jake. I know exactly what you are talking about with the bunching. The threes really aren't that much bigger. They start at 16 lbs.

Just checking, did moving up to a 3 help? I work at Pampers and we often suggest moving up a size because the larger sizes have more absorbent gelling material. With my oldest DD, I always used a bigger size at nighttime for her since she needed it, but during the day, I'd always use the smaller sizes.
