  I read a really interesting photo blog of a girl from Ukraine who went into the Alienation Zone. They made for striking pictures.

  Like you said, a few hours shouldn't harm anything.  I would be a lot more worried about being robbed in Moscow.  Not that I wouldn't go in a heartbeat!
