projectile spit up

both twins just started doing this yesterdy after each feeding...normal?

Re: projectile spit up

  • We've seen that a couple times too.  Not sure if it's normal or not though.  It doesn't happen often for us so I haven't been too concerned.  Curious what others will say...

  • My boys do that too. Most of the time their spit up just flows out, but some times it will fly out. I think that as long as they are "happy spitter uppers" it is OK. Meaning, they don't look like they are in pain and they are gaining weight etc. But if the spitting up is projectile really frequently I'd talk to your pedi.

  • if it is after every feeding i would talk to your doc, esp if it truly seems like the whole bottle. you don't want to risk dehydration and the possibility of pyloric stenosis.  It could be nothing at all, or something as basic as reflux that needs no treatment, or needs some meds -depends on a lot of other factors.

Gibby used to do it after every few feedings. since he wasn't in pain and it wasn't every feeding we never did anything about it,,, just kept a lot of towels around!

  • Sophia is the queen of projectile vom.  But she doesn't seem to be in pain, so we just let it go.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • If they start having bad feeds with this or it seems painful I would talk with your pedi. It could be some mild reflux starting. Also are they formula or breast fed? I ask because if they are formula fed you might consider switching to Enfamil AR. It has worked wonders for us. Caitlin was the worst and would even have formula come out of her nose at times (scary). Since switching to the AR she hardly spits up at all and she is feeding really well.
