Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone have a home alarm system?

We are thinking about getting one and I have a bunch of questions for you.

What security company do you use?

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc..

System price and monthly price

Would you recommend your company?

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps?

Anything else you want to share would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Anyone have a home alarm system?

  • What security company do you use? Cubby Visser

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc.. A motion sensor light turns on with alerts Cubby to intruders.

System price and monthly price. Initial startup cost was 125.00... monthly fees include food and housing.  Yearly fees include rabies shots and liscense.

Would you recommend your company? Yes.

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps? Cubby alerts us of any passerby's walking down the street.  His warning period is a tad much.

:)  - I could also tell you about our friend Ruger and AR, but only if you want me to. :)

  • What security company do you use?  Broadview (Brinks)

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc.. Doors and Motion Sensors on bottom 2 levels

System price and monthly price I think we paid 200 for the install.  And 34.00 a month

Would you recommend your company?  Yes

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps?  Silent

Anything else you want to share would be greatly appreciated!  Another question you should ask is if you want WIRED or WIRELESS system.  WIRED is better from what I understand, but requires more setup of actually snaking the wires through the walls to the system panels and main control center.  BUT its much more difficult for an intruder to disarm a WIRED system.  Whereas an intruder could just pull the wireless system off the wall...or kill power, and the WIRELESS system would be in a state of failure.

  • We are thinking about getting one and I have a bunch of questions for you.

What security company do you use? Broadview (was Brinks)

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc.. We have motion sensors on the first floor.  Window alarms on most windows.  Sensors on all of the doors  -french doors in kitchen, sliders in family room, garage, and front door.  We have 2 keypads.  One by the garage door (b/c that's the way we go out and come in) and one in our bedroom, which I love b/c I can set it as we go to bed and turn off the motion if I need to run downstairs in the middle of the night.  Also, we can turn the motion off and just keep the door alarms on if we have a bunch of kids over and need to make sure no one sneaks out.  That's kind of nice.

System price and monthly price I think we paid $200 for installation of everything and we pay $37/month

Would you recommend your company? Absolutely, without hesitation.

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps? Ours beeps once when you set it and then when you open the door it beeps until you turn it off.

  • What security company do you use?  Central Security Group

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc..  Basic package included 1 control panel, 1 keypad, 1 motion detector, 3 door contacts and 1 siren for $99.  We had to add-on all the window contacts, $88ea x 10 windows.  Plus we had to upgrade to a more expensive motion detector so the dog wouldn't set it off, I think that was $35.  We are going to add monitored fire/smoke, which is going to be 5 detectors at $130ea.

Monthly price  $33.  Adding fire won't increase the monitoring fee

Would you recommend your company?  Yes.  Much more pleasant to work with than Brinks or ADT was, and installation and monitoring were both less expensive after we added up all the options we wanted.

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps?  Either, we can change this option at the keypad.  We can also turn on/off the beeps when a door opens, when the system is not armed.

  • What security company do you use?  We went w/a local company (faster response time)

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc..  Door sensors on the front door, patio door in the back, and our basement door. Window sensor on the basement window. Motion sensor in the living room (which covers all of our downstairs windows so we didn't need window sensors.) We have 1 keypad by the front door, and I have a keyfob which activates and disarms the alarm.

System price and monthly price  I think we paid $700 for install. Included everything, and a cell monitoring module since we dont have a home phone line.  We pay $25/mo for monitoring.

Would you recommend your company?   I would!

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps? Ours beeps. I think you can change this setting to whatever you want.

I know most companies do this now, but if we ever move, we can have a new system installed in our new house for free (and we actually own the cell module so we can take that with us and leave the rest of the system there.)

I also negotiated on the monthly monitoring fee as well. I really wanted to use this company but did not want to pay extra for the cell monitoring. They were great at working with me and I dont think a larger national company would have bothered to do that.

  • Thanks so much for all your help so far! And I got your pm tavia! I think this will definitely be helping us make a decision. And I hadn't even thought about wired vs wireless, thanks for bringing it up.

  • What security company do you use? ADT

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc.. Motion sensors and alarms on all windows and doors.  The whole system is monitored by ADT and also includes monitored smoke alarms throughout the house.

System price and monthly price. It came with the house.  I can't remember what the activation fee was, if any.  It's about $30/month.

Would you recommend your company? Yes.

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps? Beeps.

    Yes

  • What security company do you use? Slomans and we also have a big dog named Bear

Tell me about your coverage--motion sensors, window alarms, etc.. we only have motion sensors in the house and on the outside doors.

System price and monthly price...my inlaws had it installed years ago then we bought the house so I am not sure if they paid anything to have it installed but we pay about $30 a month for it

Would you recommend your company? Def...we have never had a problem with them

Is the 60 second warning period silent? beeps? No, if you enter our house and the alarm is on it beeps until its disabled and if not disabled within 30 seconds the alarm goes off.
