Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If your LO does not STTN, has he/she slept out?

I am in desperate need of catching up on sleep.  I want to ask my momn or MIL to take DD but she still wakes up 2-3 times a night and the first time she wakes we take her into our bed.  I don't know how to ask someone to babysit her overnight because of this.

  • My mom has had DS overnight 3 or 4 times and he still doesn't sleep through the night. He doesn't come in my bed but he gets up and either wants to be rocked, wants to eat, or just needs a his paci put back in. My mom always says it's no big deal...even if she's up a lot through the night with him it's one night and she can always sleep or nap the next day...so she doesn't mind. I'm sure your parents or in laws will feel the same. They know your LO doesn't sleep through the night right? I say ask!

  • We haven't had this problem in a while, but when we did, my husband and I would rotate night duty. One would sleep in our room, the other would sleep in the guest room across the hall from the nursery. That way, every other night, one would get a full nights rest.?
  • Sorry to tell you but it'll be a while until you actually get to catch up on sleep Tongue Tied My LO still doesn't STTN, he wakes up at least twice every night. I've tried everything, nothing works so I just gave up.
  • DD doesn't STTN and never has.  She spends the night at my mom's house frequently. Probably a dozen times since she was 3 months old.

My mom doesn't mind getting up with DD.  So my suggestion is let your mom or MIL know about the situation and what things you do to help put DD back to bed. Most people are happy to help and don't mind missing out on sleep once or twice to help out!

Unfortunately we currently live in a one bedroom condo and share a room with DD, so this is not an option. : (

  • I don't plan on leaving him overnight until he STTN consistently. I've had offers from family to take him for the night, but I just don't feel comfortable leaving him until he STTN.
  • I would ask. My mom babysat before G slept through the night. She would just put him on the bed with her.
