so annoyed with geek squad at the moment

i'm trying to call the local best buy geek squad folks to find out hwo busy they are and when they want me to bring my broken bits in for attempted data recovery and whether they want me to bring the hard drive inside the system or to take it out and bring it in.  i just got the new hard drive from dell today so have now only 10 days to send the old one back to them so clearly need to get moving on finding a way to get my old data off.

aggravation cause?  i've called twice in the last 15 mins and the geek squad line rang 25 times with no one answering both times.  wtf!  how is that okay?  don't businesses always have at least one person that 'covers the phones' or whatever??  bah.  and it's an utter deluge out there so i def don't want to head to the store if they're not going to have time to look at it ya know?  grr.

  • That is strange.  Are you sure you have the right number?  I would think they would have voicemail even if they are too busy to answer.

  • Honestly, I'd find a local computer shop over Geek Squad.  I had my fill of them when I had to talk the "geek" through installing extra memory one of our computers.  It would have been better if I had installed it myself.
  • You might be better off contacting a locally owned, non-chain computer repair store to get it done in a timely manner.
  • That is frustrating.  My sister had a terrible experience with her local geek squad.  They charged her a fair amount (I want to say near $300) for data retrieval that was incomplete.  She took it to a local repair shop to see if he could do a better job, and he was able to get all the data and charged her at most $60.

ETA:  Geek squad had her computer for like 2 weeks and the local repair shop had it done in 48 hours.

  • Are there any listings for one in the phone book that are in a better area?

  • NoNo , geek squad. Both for your crappy treatment of lytedark, and your general suckness.

Can you ask on your local board to see if anyone has any experience or recommendations? What about looking up local places with a basic search and then running their names through the BBB?
