CD questions

We're planning on cloth diapering our LO who is due in August. ?I've started building up my stash of CD's. ?I have purchased 6 kissaluv0, 8 thirsties fitteds, 3 xs/newborn covers, cloth wipes, and 7 BG 3.0's. ?I know that baby won't fit into the BG 3.0's right away so I'm hoping to build up my newborn stash. ?What do you recommend?

I've heard so many good things about the green mountain prefolds but they intimidate me. ?Please tell me that I will survive using them!? ?I'd like to add some of these to our stash. ?

I have 30 cloth wipes. ?Will this be enough? ?

How many xs/newborn covers should I plan on getting? ?What about BG 3.0's??

Any help you can give me is appreciated. ??

Re: CD questions

  • DD is my first CDed mostly child with pf's. I love them and wish I had done them more with ds in the beginning. I could have worked on dh later. It is easy once you know a couple folds. I use the same two or three folds because they work nicely. As I need others I'll use them. You can do it. And 30 wipes should be plenty.

This might be a really stupid question but if I'm using a cover such as the bummis wrap then wouldn't I just fold the diaper in 3rds and lay inside the cover? ?I'm clueless on prefolds!?

  • Yes you can do that. There are other folds as well. The trifold doesn't work for us because dd gets soaked and pees everywhere in that no matter how tight I get the cover. I do the bikini twist fold and angel wing fold usually.

    Thanks!?

  • The trifold never worked for us because of the runniness of newborn poo.  We swear by the angel wing fold as that seems to keep things contained.  Lots of the folds benefit from the use of a snappi, so you may want to look into buying a couple of those instead (or pins if that's more your style).  As with many things, there is a bit of a learning curve, but its really not that difficult and its not a big deal if you get it somewhat wrong!
  • That's probably enough wipes.

How big are babies in your family? We didn't use the x-small covers at all with DD (9 lbs) and just briefly with the twins. 2-3 should be plenty. We were in the BG's within the first month.

I was a premie so I was around 3lbs.  DH was 7lbs.  My nieces and nephews were all around 7-9lbs.  I will have 6 newborn sized covers after I order this week- will that be enough?  How many smalls would you recommend?
