Rookie question - PFs v. Fitteds

Hi all.

I'm still in the researching phase.  To me, it looks like fitteds under a cover would be considerably easier than PFs under a cover.  Am I wrong? Do fitteds generally work as well as PFs?  Opinions appreciated!

Re: Rookie question - PFs v. Fitteds

  • We have always used both PF and fitted diapers and we love prefolds. We can get them on quickly and our LO doesn't move too much during changes yet. They are also inexpensive and easy to launder.

  • Yup, fitteds tend to be easier (not that prefolds are hard) because you can just snap them on.  Fitteds work just as well, and sometimes better, than prefolds.  There are lots of great, incredibly absorbent fitteds that your LO can even wear coverless for short periods around home.  The only downside is that fitteds are more expensive.

  • Ah, the cost!  *smacking self on head*  How did I miss that?!?  Thanks for the info!
  • One other question...

Do AIOs work as well as fitteds/PFs with a cover?  I know AIOs are more expensive, but obviously they seem more convenient.  Thanks!

I think so.  It definitely depends on the diaper and the baby, but we use all pockets or AIO's for convenience.  My DH likes them, daycare can handle them, and they are simple for me too.  They cost a bit more, but it was worth it to us plus I've been able to resell the ones DS outgrows to recoup some of the cost.

    Thanks!  Very helpful!

  • We used disposable for the first month and then took advantage of 3 weeks of diaper service we received as a shower gift. The diaper service uses only PFs. I had been SO excited to use cloth but was really, really frustrated and disappointed once we switched. By the third week I hardly used the cloth at all; I just hated it. This week I started using the fitted diaper stash I built up while pregnant and I'm THRILLED. I love them and am extremely glad I decided to CD (which is not at all how I felt with the PF). This is only day three, but so far it's great. So, obviously, in my opinion fitted are much, much better and well worth the cost!

Very glad to see a varied opinion!  Thank you!
