  I'm out in So. Cali so my nursey won't help, but I've been planting heirloom varities for a couple of years and I think their outstanding in flavor, try Sweet 100's, Yellow Pear, German Stripe and I'm trying this year Green Grapes and Sunsugars. I believe I saw Sweet 100's at Lowe's or perhaps it was Home Depot.

  Home Depot has better plants in my area than Lowe's does, but lots of times local feed stores or even hardware stores will have a gardening dept.  Many times, these are more likely to be locally grown than the supercenter plants that get shipped all over.

  Believe it or not, I got an awesome tomato plant from Walmart for like $5 last year.  It did so well.  It was a hybrid variety that grew small round tomatoes, but not like plum tomatoes.  I bought it in late March, and it was about 3-4 inches tall.  By the time the end of the summer came it was about 4 feet tall!  I got tons of tomatoes of that plant; even after the attack of the nasty tomato worm (those green buggers are just gross).  That plant survived being outside all the way until Jan of this year.  It was still producing small green tomatoes the bird would eat up until christmas. The only thing I used to help with growth, since I was growing them on the patio in an empty bucket, was a little bit of miracle grown once a week.

  The best luck I have had is growing mine from seeds.  I start early with pots indoors near a window on the south side of the house.  We grow roma and grape tomatoes and I have so many that I have to give them away in addition to canning.  Regular old Wal-Mart seeds.
