Success after IF

16 and pregnant

Made me cry like a baby!

I was home by myself Sunday morning and the episode where the girl was giving her baby up for open adoption came on.  Right at the part where they were having the adoption ceremony, I absolutely lost it.  I can't help but think how easily it could've been us standing there and how giving a baby up for adoption really is the most selfless thing one can do...

  • I cried too!!!  I think giving your child up for adoption is such a selfless act.

  • Yah, that was touching yet tough to watch.

That girl's boyfriend or, rather ex-boyfriend pissed me off.  He kept encouraging her that they would keep the baby when she was in no position to do so.

As difficult as it was to watch, I admire the girl's parents.  I may have handled it a bit differently (and not let cameras into my home), but I appreciate that her parents held firm on not raising the baby.  Adoption is a hard road, and a selfless gift. . . but it also allowed her to contine with her life as she had hoped it would be.  She will always be changed, but her future will be more in line with what she and her parents hoped for.

The episode with the girl whose mom also had a baby shortly after her--that made me sad.  You don't wish the babies away, but their lives will never be the same.

The boyfriend was totally an a-hole.  "They are all waiting for me a the bar!!!" when she was trying to talk to him about putting their baby up for adoption!

My friend and I were just talking the other day... we were all a bunch goody two shoes when we were in HS and the guys we knew were probably as good as kids come at 16.  Yet none of them would be mature enough to handle being a dad.

Totally should have this show on continual loop in all high schools :)
