At DS's 12-month appointment the nurse asked if he was saying two words together... I was kind of in shock and didn't think this was a "norm" to even try to compare him to on the day he turns 12 months old. Obviously he is nowhere near this.
no. don't worry. that is ridiculous to expect a 12 month old to say two word thoughts. honestly. DS just now (at almost 19 months) is saying a few of the MOST simple two word phrases.

My pedi asked and I said that she could only say things that we normally say together as two words, like if we regularly say "don't touch" she would say "don't touch" but she didn't understand "don't" as a separate word, if that makes sense? The pedi said that was really good for her age and most kids can't string words yet.
DS has a HUGE HUGE vocabulary. Seriously 50+ words before he turned one. He's now 15 months and still doesn't string two words together. We try, but he's not feeling it yet.?
Our pedi never asked about 2-words together at the 12 month checkup. She just asked if DD said "any" words. She only said "dada" at 12 months. Now at 13 months she says "dada" "dad" and "poopoo" (which is the name of her lovey). She did walk into the livingroom the other night though when DH was sitting on the couch and said "hi dad"... but we think it was just a fluke... she hasn't said it again.
Pedi only asked if he was babbling/trying to say things. He has said "all done" once before and "hi dada" but he doesn't say them regularly or if asked.

Nope, unless you count "Uh oh" . She just started saying "No dog" this past week and she'll be 18 months soon. I don't think you can expect them to have sentences already, some babies just take longer.
no. no child should be doing 2 word utterances at that age (excepting "chunks" like "oh no" or "whats up"...idiomatic things like that). They are in the one-word stage for most of their 2nd year of life. The pedi probably just moved you to the next "checklist" and they'll continue to ask those questions until your LO has fulfilled all of them.

Lily does the same two.
