So i went for my HSG today - it was HORRIBLE! They had some issues even getting dye to go in me so i laid there forever as they kept changing cathater sizes and in the end did balloon one (2X! this one sucked the most!!). I was in so much pain i was in tears :-/
After it was all done, the doctor showed me the pics. It looks like no dye seems to want to go into either tubes?!?! The way she described it was that i should have seen the V shape for my uterus and then the tubes... but i didn't even get the full V shape of my uterus in there?! WTF! The doctor seemed pretty baffled (great - just what i need - another "your a strange case" moment!).... so she said we're going to do surgery - they will go in with a telescope down there, and also laproscopically (2 belly button area incisions) go in there to see what is going on and i guess fix it if they can (she said remove scar tissue if there, or fix endometriosis that may be there...not sure though). I go 4/28 for this surgery (Day before my anniversary - YAY).
I'm so nervous,scared, confused! I never had any previous surgeries so i can't imagine it is scar tissue? Any one else have even a removely similar experience??? Any gudiance/advice/words will definitely be helpful to me right now. (Plus i am also bummed because that means at least another month wait before we can even consider our cycle options
)
Thanks for reading and sorry this is long - i really needed to talk to someone and nobody i know here ever went thru anything like this :-/
Re: Ladies who've had a bad HSG result - i need advice
Sweetie I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I cannot share any words of wisdom, because my HSG was pretty uneventful, but I did have the laparascopic surgery done last month. I am not going to lie, it was uncomfortable, but they can manage your pain very well, and I did get alot of information after. The doc did find endo and I had to have 2 cysts removed from my tubes. Overall, I was glad I had it done because we got a lot of questions answered and the doc is very optimistic about our chances to conceive. Good Luck to you!!
My HSG day was one of the worst in my life so far. When the stupid radiologist went to insert the speculum it felt like he was ripping me in two and it went downhill from there. I was in so much pain and I'd had a speculum inserted for my annual exams several times with no pain at all. The catheter fell out, he had to do the entire thing over and then he says, well, it looks like one of your tubes might work and walked out. I was in shock! I did have a lap surgery and highly recommend it because you'll know what is going on. My recovery was quick. My right tube was minimally open, but my left tube was found to be fine. I took my pain meds for 1 day only.
My friend had a story very similar to yours. She asked for an HSG upfront from her RE and he said it wasn't needed. She cycled for 7 months and then demanded one! He agreed and same experience as you, the dye didn't even show a good pic of her uterus and never made it to the tubes. She switched RE's. They did an SHG on her and saw polyps in her uterus. Several of them. They did a lap/hysteroscopy and removed all of the polyps. Her uterus and tubes are now normal. If you do a lap, I'd make sure and request a hysteroscopy at the same time and if possible, find a doctor that will do a tubal cannulization if they get in there and find it's needed. I know how scary and frustrating it is!! I'm so sorry!

I'm sorry you had a bad HSG. My result was not like yours--my tubes were open, but swollen--but the end result was the same--laparoscopic surgery. There are several possibilities why your tubes aren't open, and your RE will use the surgery to see what's going on and fix whatever she can while she's in there.
The laparoscopy was my first surgery too. It's normal to be anxious and scared about it. You will be fine. Just plan to take it easy for a while after the surgery. And don't be shy about accepting all offered pain medication. (I'm a big wuss, so I never want to wait until something hurts to take medication).
The biggest frustration in my experience was the waiting. I had my HSG in July 2009, but didn't get scheduled for surgery until late September. After that, my RE made us wait 2 cycles for healing purposes. On the bright side, you are on your way to having some concrete answers about why you're not getting pregnant.
Good luck to you!
My HSG was uncomfortable. My doctor had to re-insert the catheter and shoot the dye in 3 times. Both of my tubes are blocked. I chose not to have a lap surgery done because she told me that it would more than likely just be a look around and they would not be able to repair my tubes...they are clubbed at the ends. She told me than that IVF would be our only option.
Hugs to you...IF is such a difficult process. I hope they get some answers for you.
Thanks to everyone for your support and words... it definitely calmed me a lot!
C0debabe - the good thing is they already scheduled my surgery for next month (since i am on BCP this month -they know my cycle pretty much so they can plan it already)... hoping they won't make me wait too long after the surgery til we can try.... as i am sure you guys all understand well, i am awefully ready to keep moving forward to conquer this crappy IF!!!
Thanks again
