? about staying in a hotel with LO - HELP!

We are staying in a hotel for a weekend next month and I'm getting really nervous about how it's going to go with DS in the same room as us.  First, he goes to bed way before us - and we can't leave our room obviously, So I'm not sure what we'll be doing in the same room and not keeping him awake....He sleeps well at night at home but wakes frequently and then goes back to sleep.  When we stay in the same room overnight with him (like at my parents' house) it's awful and he wakes and sees us and we go around and around trying to get him back to sleep.  Even letting him sleep in bed with us doesn't work. He thinks that means we're up for having a party with him.  And I don't think we can let him cry it out in a hotel room - I'm sure the walls are too thin for that.....

Any tips/suggestions/support/ideas???? We can't be the first people to be going through this!!  HELP!

  • Have you considered upgrading to a suite? That way he'll be in a separate room?

Last time we were at a hotel with Jake, he didn't fall asleep until 10pm and we had to cosleep.

As for things to do, we watched tv and read.

  • We stayed in a hotel a month ago with DS. He goes to bed at 7, in general. He went to bed at 7:30 and we just read and went to bed early. We usually try to rent a house if we are going somewhere for longer than a day so we have room to spread out.
  • Get a hotel with a suite. We stay in Residence Inns or similar when we travel with DS.

The one time we didn't, DH and I spent the night from 7p-11p watching movies on his laptop in the bathroom until we were ready for bed. :/

  • We stayed in a springhill suites where there was a little sitting area.  Not a separate room but it was enough separation.  Interestingly,  I was worried too, but once she was a sleep for about 20 mins I could turn on a reading light to read, or watch tv.  She went to sleep a little later than normal due to timing issues, but she slept wonderfully.  I was soooo worried, and there was nothing to worry about.  I also took a shower and everything while she was sleeping.  We made sure to bring her sleep sheep for background noise while she was going to sleep.

  • you could watch movies on a laptop with headphones...
  • Thanks everyone. I think we'll do the laptop movie thing.  I don't mind getting to bed early and if DH wants to go out he can (he has friends staying nearby and the reason we are going is for him anyways).  I will grab some extra sleep on the drive there and accept that it probably won't be a sleep filled, smooth trip.  Keeping the bar low helps me cope!!
