I like this approach. She is really technologically challenged and only has dial-up Internet. I could totally get away with "that's weird- I never got a friend request..."
Can't help ya. My MIL added me...and I can never say no.
I blocked her from my status updates for the longest time. After, when I posted that we were "Watching LOST, baby!" she commented in a panic, asking what happened to DD and was everything ok.
...blocking her worked until I realized that I'd forgotten to block her step daughter as well, and step-SIL was commenting to MIL on my status and MIL became convinced there was a vast conspiracy.
I agree with the play dumb idea. FIL and stepFIL have both sent me friend requests each two times. I've ignored all requests and just hope neither will ask me why I don't accept, sadly I don't think I can play dumb after two attempts from both of them.

She may surprise you. I am FB friends with my MIL and her current status is "dyed Easter eggs with Eli, who knew being a grandma could be so much fun?".
Ditto PP that you can add her and then set it so that she can't see certain things, or can't really see anything at all. It will look like you just never update your page.

Sigh.
DH and I both had a really good laugh over this because it is totally something my MIL would do- she can be a little slow to catch on with things.
