Cereal

Did it help little one sleep through the night?

I have the go ahead to try it from the pedi but just wondering if it will help.  I have plenty of breatmilk but she still like to get up every 3-4 hours to eat.  I have tried the pacifer and soothing her but it only gains me 30 minutes and then she is mad and hungry.

Any suggestions how to get her to sleep longer if cereal doesn't work?

Re: Cereal

  • No cereal didnt.  She didn't STTN until 6 months.

    Sleep training will help.

  • She does pretty well falling asleep on her own.  I think she is just waking up because she is hungry.  I thought cereal might stay in her tummy longer then my breast milk.

  • It's just an old wives tale that it helps sleep. If anything, rice makes them more hungry because it's an empty carb - just starch that burns off quickly.

  • Honestly at this point, if she is breastfed she may not be ready to STTN.  And ditto Mrs. Reem, it doesn't magically make them STTN.

Have you tried cluster feeding in the evening before bed?

  • Going 3-4 hours is common in BF babies at that age.  BM is the best thing for her.  Or try feeding every 2 hours during the day.  If she's already going 2 hours, maybe try a dream-feed before you go to bed.
