Babies: 9 - 12 Months

s/o milk: Tripled birth weight = cow's milk?

Has anyone's LO tripled birth weight and been put on cow's milk? A neighbor's LO who is one day younger than DS (so she's just shy of 10 months) is on cow's milk because of her weight. I was under the impression that they still need the nutrients from formula. Am I wrong?

  • Apparently the pedi thought she was too big. Confused

I think I'd look for a new pedi. I almost said something but bit my tongue...maybe I should have said something?

  • that sounds like a ridiculous rule! i've never heard of anyone doing that!

how big is she? can't they just feed her less formula? or if she is really hungry, she should eat what she wants!

  • I think she said the the baby was 7 lbs or so at birth so she'd be around 21 lbs or more. But here's the thing...the baby was also 28 inches...so she was tall and not chubby! Man, now I wish I would have said something.

that doesn't seem big to me for an almost 10 month old! If you see the neighbor or are friends with her, I'd tell her not to listen to the pedi. Where is this dr. getting his/her info. from, seriously?

I will say something if I see her again. I didn't know if I was mistaken.

  • Dd was 20lbs and 28 3/4" long at her 9 month appointment and our pedi never said anything about transitioning her to cows milk.

I guess all pedis have their own practices.

Sometimes I wish moms would trust their instincts! I also wish doctors with crazy ideas would retire :D

  • Umm . . . DD has quadrupled her birth weight (DS tripled) and the pedi still told us to wait till a year!
  • Both of my guys have quadrupled their weight at 9 mo. and there has been no mention of them being overweight or even close to ready for cow's milk.
