When do they understand the concept of "Hold on"?

It's almost humorous (and then again not) how upset and insistent ds will be for me to fix something or read him something or whatever when I'm in the middle of doing something and can't.  I will tell him to hold on a sec and I will <fill in the blank>, but he will start getting more and more upset.  I wish he just understood that if he let me have the 30 seconds to put the laundry in the dryer, I will gladly feed him his fruit ice.

When do they understand the concept of waiting a second?

    I've been telling DD "patience". I guess really it's the same concept of saying hold on, I think she gets what it means but just really doesn't have any "patience" lol

    DD will be 3 in May, and she gets it, but that doesn't stop her from whining/asking constantly for whatever she wants RIGHT NOW.

    Ugh, I'll let you know. DS is the least patient creature on the planet (besides his mother Stick out tongue) and does not understand "in a minute", "later or "wait". The second DS put his last bite of food in his mouth, he's demanding more milk. Sometimes DH and I aren't finished eating yet so we tell him he needs to wait until mommy or daddy is finished. This only causes him to turn red with anger and to start shouting "muck! muck!" while swishing his plate around in front of him.

    No idea. The whining drives me batty though. I've been going with a "startle then distract" technique lately, and it's actually kinda working. So as soon as Lyla starts insisting, "mo chee! mo chee! MO CHEE!" (translation: more cheese RIGHT NOW OR ELSE), followed by that trademark half-whine/half-cry, I start singing "A B C D E F G" on the top of my lungs. And she's so surprised by the sudden outburst of her favorite song that she actually forgets about the cheese, just long enough for me to get it ready.

    Not sure that this is a viable long-term solution, however. Wink
