I had a college roommate who spelled it Aubree. But I agree, leave it alone.
Think about it this way - having a "classic" spelled name will not be the norm when our kids get older because all of the crazy/different names and spellings these days, so you don't have to worry about your LO having a "popular" name. I'm a fan of leaving it.
Uh...that's a girl's name? I grew up with a boy named Aubrey. I just asked DH if he was familiar with the name and he gave me one of those "ya think?" looks, and said "Uh, yeah, it's a VERY popular West Indian boy's name." LOL.? There's an Aubrey in DD's class.? I like it as a girls name, I just put it in the same category with boy's names that have become girl's names, like Sidney.
I'm with KG on this one. Yes it's a classic name - a classic boy's name. Anyway, it's fine for a girl, but really ought to be spelled the original (AKA correct) way.

Wow, you really had to work for that one!? I could completely see that being mispronounced as a sound not unlike a cat coughing up a hairball.? I don't think I could top that one! LOL
Re: How would you spell this girl name?
I am SO not a fan of 'changing it up some'.
It is spelled Aubrey. It's a beautiful name. Why eff it up?
Aubrey.
This. I can't even think of a way to change it that wouldn't just be...strange.
