some worrying news from the level 2

so i have been away all weekend and didn't get a chance to ask you all if anyone else had this happen. first good news its a boy and he is measuring perfect, and he is so beautiful :)

so the surprise find was in baby's heart, if i remember the name correctly its called echogenic, but basically what it boils down to is a calcium deposit in one of his ventricles of his little heart.  the dr told us that it will have no effect on sammy's heart or its function.  but it does however double his chances for downs syndrome.  our odds are still really good but it was just shocking to see this completely obvious mark inside his perfect little heart. 

i was just wondering if any of you ladies had this experience, or know anyone whose baby had the same.

    I do not have any experience/knowledge about this, but I have seen posts on here about calcium deposits on the heart before.

    I hope that someone can give you some advice/reassurance.

    And I hope that everything comes out ok for your LO :) Gl hun

    Yep, my little boy has a unilateral echogenic cardiac focus.  It's considered a soft marker for chromosomal issues.  Another bumpie helped to reassure me that it's really nothing to worry about--with the technology we have today, it's seen more often and especially around the 20 week mark.  If that is the only issue your doc saw, I wouldn't be worried at all.  It may even disappear by your next ultrasound.  Hope that helps a little : )

    Same thing happened to one of my good friends, and her now 2 year old is perfectly fine and incredibly intelligent. The calcium spots were gone by her 32 week 3/d ultrasound.

    It happened to us.. went back a week later and the focus was gone. I wouldn't stress too much- and remember especially its a SOFT marker.

    I'm having identical twins and one has this.  They said not to worry about it because there were no other signs and if they are identical then both would have it.  Our bloodwork was a 1 in 10,000 chance so they said it was even less to worry about.

    Yes, with DD#1, and she came out perfectly healthy. :) It did raise the risk for Down's, but because my bloodwork was good, the risk was still very low.

    My DD had two soft markers. The echogenic cardiac focus and a choroid plexus cyst. Even with those two markers they told us the chance of anything actually being wrong with her was very, very low. She is now a perfectly healthy and smart 2 year old!! I know it is hard, but try not to worry too much about it. Also, the biggest mistake I  made was googling it!
