does your career = your political viewpoint?

I mean, all actors/actresses lean left. (90% was the statistic I heard this morning...not sure if that's true, but seems right)

most major media (cooker, you made me think of this) also leans left.

My current company is a pretty left company, although I'm pretty right.  (of course, I'm right, I'm NEVER wrong...hahahah..lame joke)

so, where you work, do you hold the "popular" stance that everyone you work with holds....or not?

And what are the "right" type occupations?  I can't seem to think of any, but I'm sure there are some.

Re: does your career = your political viewpoint?

  • Where I work = left. However I'm indep. and voting McCain...so I would say I'm in the minority.

  • I work in journalism and our staff is a pretty even mix of left and right.

  • well in my old job it was kinda half and half. It was a college. The administration seemed to 98% lean right but the professors 98% leaned left. The administration used to be more moderate/right before the new president got hired a few years ago.

    I lean quite far right.
  • I AM the liberal media elite!! Though trust me, there are PLENTY of Republicans in my office!!

  • I'm in academic/health care and everyone I work with is democrat (it is pretty amazing, I don't know if there are closet republicans, but literally everyone at the conference I was just at was talking Obama).

Republicans I know work in business.

All teachers I know are democrat.

  • I work for a major oilfield company in Houston...so I would say about 90% of employees are republican.
  • I work in the financial industry, so mostly republicans.
  • I'm in social services and it seems like most of my co-workers are left-leaning.

However, in particular I work with individuals who have autism, Down's Syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Becaues of Palin and her son who also was born with Down's I wonder if some people will be persuaded to that side since she promises to strongly advocate for those with disabilities.
  • I worked in non-profit and in a lot of volunteer worked for under-privileged populations as well as pro-choice and gay rights advocacy.

All very Left, for obvious reasons.

  • I don?t think it?s your career that dictates your leaning as much as your leaning dictating the field you pursue. I?m in the media (an editor and reporter) and I lean left.

It?s my views that led me to pursue journalism and the arts. Most ?lefties? I know leaned toward the liberal arts. Most ?righties? I know leaned toward careers in the business and legal fields.

Interestingly, most of the editorial and art staff at my job lean left. The sales staff are more to the right.

  • Oh - DH is a CFA and works in finance. He and most of his colleagues are fiscal conservatives and will vote for McCain, but are pretty liberal on social issues. I think that just has more to do with where we live (Boston) than anything else. The majority around here are socially liberal.

  • I am in public education and am waaayyyy liberal.  Most teachers I know are also democrats. My dad is way more liberal than I am even and he is in the oil industry, and lives in Texas. Ha! He is in the minority, that is for sure.
  • I'm independent, but I tend to lean left.  My organization is VERY right.  I keep my political views to myself at work...not worth the arguments that would no doubt ensue.
  • Both my husband's career and my career are hugely affected by politics, so yes.  He works at a coal mine, I work for a power coop who owns and operates coal-based power plants.  Politics plays a huge role in that, especially today.  But I'm not necessarily a republican/democrat because the general manager of my company is.  I have other issues that affect my life, too that are important to me.

  • I'm in MA so a majority are left of center!  I work in the non-profit Human services arena.  They lean very left.  I used to work in a sales environment and they leaned farther right (sales people are money hungry!)

  • While waiting in line FOREVER at the caucus, the guy in front of me was like the SOLO defense contractor voting Obama.  lmao

I'm a huge stereotype of a Dem - liberal religion, drive a Subaru, went to a liberal arts college, psychology major, dad is a social science academic/professor.

  • Ditto Devon.  I worked for an international development NGO and I'm pretty far left.  My husband works in finance and most of his colleagues are Republicans for fiscal reason, though I'd guess most of them are socially liberal.  I really do not know anyone who is socially conservative.  I live in Boston also which is probably why!
  • I work for a Christian publisher. I think our office is about as far right as you can get.

And no, I don't hold the popular stance, as I am pretty liberal.

  • I am very right wing Republican. I work at a Christian University, where most people are conservative republicans as well. Of course the fact that I am from Texas is probably the biggest reason I am a conservative. I love the fact that Palin is a member of the NRA and hunts and enjoys the outdoors. I feel like there will be someone like me in the White House (if they win of course).

Some people say they are liberal when it comes to social issues, but I'm about as conservative as they come. I can't be the only one that feels this way?

  • I used to work for an education membership non-profit, and most of the office leaned left - there were a few republicans, but not many.  Our organization was officially non-partisan, BUT it was anti-NCLB (only organization to oppose it from the start), so that tells you we were fairly anti-administration.

My DH is a defense contractor and works with idiots who regularly joke and call Obama "Osama"  He keeps quiet, but I keep begging him to let me at those bigots ;P  He was also in the military at one point, so not a lot of liberals there - although, some of the ex-military I know voting Obama shocked the heck out of me!
