DD has to have her tear duct opened tomorrow. We have to be at the surgery center @ 6am and they stressed that she can't eat or drink after midnight.

To me, this seems like an impossible task. DD wakes up @ 5:30am like clock work EVERY SINGLE DAY and is ready to eat right away. She is going to be miserable!

Would it be crazy for us to wake her up @ 11pm tonight to feed her and give her some liquids? Or will it now be as bad as I am imagining?

It was pretty much the same for DS. We fed him some formula around 11pm. We put him in the car around 4:45, and he was so sleepy he fell asleep again. When we got there it was around 5:30 and even though he was hungry, he was more interested in what was going on.

We were told to only give DS liquids at his 11pm feeding, not solids. I am not sure what your orders are, though.

You know her best. but we didn't do anything differently when DS had ear tube surgery. He ate dinner as usual then went to bed. We woke him up in the morning, changed his diaper and left his PJ's on. Loaded him in the car and left. There was too much going on for him to care about food/drink.

A poster a couple days ago pointed out that you should check your carseat to make sure there is no "leftover" food (cheerios, snacks, etc.) that they can get ahold of that morning.

That is exactly what we do/did before Brendan's surgeries. Wake him up to fill him up. Normally he was so distracted by everything going on he didn't act hungry. Plus knowing he was a baby they made us the first surgery

My little guy had a hernia surgery when he was 8 weeks old and and I "thought" the NPO (nothing to eat for 6 hours before for us) was going to kill us, but I just gave him his paci and snuggled him and he was A-OK.

I think we are headed towards tear duct surgery also, we are seeing the specialist this Friday, so I'll be interested to hear how it goes for your little one.

Nope that's what I did when DD had her surgery. I woke her up an hour before the cut off and feed her a bottle and oatmeal (she was 9 mos). She actually did pretty well but she is a late riser so she was more mad about being up so early than the actual food part.

I thought my dd would be a nightmare. I had dh get her out of bed (She was ebfed at the time) and bring her straight to the car. The car was already running so we were ready to pull right out of the driveway. I think she was so confused by all of this she didn't notice she was hungry. By the time we got there, so much was going on around her that she didn't even notice she wasn't eating.

After surgery was a different story, she screamed bloody murder until I fed her and ate like she had never been fed before.

I personally wouldn't wake her tonight b/c there's no guarantee she won't be hungry in the morning and you might not be able to get her back to sleep. So then she'll be tired and hungry in the am.

My son had surgery at 6 months old and couldnt eat after midnight. He was still nursing and up at night so I was very nervous about it.. but it was fine. Just distract the LO as much as you can. I wouldnt wake your LO tonight, let her sleep and she will be okay. Trust me, it's MUCH harder on the Mama!

Thanks so much! I think I will just let her go tonight and worry about tomorrow when it comes.
