Eco-Friendly Family

Hi Ladies!

Just wanted to introduce myself, and ask a question.

I am a SAHM, and am starting a small business on the side. I love to find new ways to conserve, and want to have a planter box on my patio (because, unfortunately, we do not have our own home).

So the question: other than tomatoes, what would be good to plant? I live in the Southeast, so its pretty mild here. I want to make a 3'x3' planter, since I don't have my own patch of earth to work with.

Any suggestions?

Re: Hi Ladies!

  • Pretty much anything.  Leafy vegetables like spinach/lettuce, cucumbers as long as you have a trellis for them to grow on, etc.  My dh's personal favorite is peppers of all varieties.

Would you suggest getting the spinach from seeds or from a nursery?

Seeds are more cost effective.  Spinach is pretty hardy and I've never had trouble getting it to grow.

  • Check out Square Foot Gardening.  You can grow all sorts of stuff. I just planned my garden with this method, so I can't speak to it yet, but it looks fruitful.
