Ok I just had a party for my little one. It was a great party at a nice resturant with a handful of kids.I figured this would be our last adult party for her. The next ones would be a kid friendly places. But to my suprise many people gave clothes and some toys. But I thought that she would have gotten more of monatary gifts for her savings. Am I just being overthinking this or was this common at your child 1st. birthday too?
Re: First birthday party
We got a lot of toys from friends and $/clothes from family members. I guess if I was "expecting" anything, that would have been it.
I don't assume others will build DS's savings for him.
He got probably half and half----some toys and then some savings bonds mainly. Probably more toys than bonds.

Notes:
We didn't get a single dollar for DD's first birthday. I've never heard of that being a common gift.
I give money for baptism gifts and older kid's birthdays, but never for a young birthday.
